Yes, I joined a couple of atheist groups here in Knoxville. I've also attended several freethinkers conferences within a couple hundred miles. You should do it, it's good to meet other heathens. You'd be surprised how many others there are in your area, even though it doesn't seem that way.

I'm putting it on my list. I need to find my people, in real life.

Yes, beem a core member in our local Humanist/ Freethinker group for eight years. I also like to stop in when traveling and visit other groups and like minded people. There are a lot of us around.

What's your best advice for someone attending a group for the first time? Remember, I'm an introvert.

@ElusiveMoby All of the groups I've attended have been warm and welcoming. My advice would be to just be yourself. If you are shy you might mention that. You might be surprised that they would like to get to know you and be your friend. If you ever come up I5 we meet in Grants Pass 1st and 3rd Saturday each month. I'd love to introduce you.

I meet up once a month with the local humanist group on the isle of wight. i also ocassionaly meet with former jw usualy in a pub and a group called faith to faithless which supports people who leave high control religious groups. Not a great deal of help for you but if you get a chance to meet woth like minded people try it it cn be fun. mind you most of the time we do end up going for a pint after the meeting

No...never ever knew there were such groups.

Oh, but there are. Even here in Texas.

@Sierra4 Texas is a long way from here...I must look into groups a bit nearer home!

Google meet ups, any keyword and group etc. Let me know if you find something in your area!

@DavidLaDeau Will do.

@Marionville You can search meetup.com for groups in your area by interest or just any groups at all that are nearby. I use meetup.com to find groups/people mostly to go on day hikes with.

@snytiger6 Thanks...I’ll look into it.

@Marionville they have them in every city (different areas of the city) in South Africa. We have a lot of expats too (from all over the world) in the groups.

@TimeOutForMe I guess I have just never felt the need to go look for one.

@Marionville one of the admin people on this agnostic group sent me the link, thankfully! I found other groups through that one too, so I m really happy about it.

@Marionville I pick and choose the ones I wish to go to.

@TimeOutForMe Awesome this kind of thing is what this site is about, bringing people together!

Yes I occasionally meet with the Metroplex (Dallas/Ft. Worth) Atheists. It's a social gathering and not any kind of a formal meeting.

Sorry -- you're not my type.

Did you just tell me that I'm not your type?

@ElusiveMoby Yes he did...I had to do a double take when I saw it!

@ElusiveMoby, no offense. But if you're not my type, then I'm not yours.

@GlyndonD Do you just randomly enter threads and tell people they aren't your type? Did I indicate to you in any way I was interested in you? I'm sure I'm relieved I'm not your type.

@Marionville Lol!!!! I don't think I've had any interaction with this person prior to this conversation. Pretty strange! Gave me something to laugh about today.

@ElusiveMoby. Pretty random!

@ElusiveMoby, I apologize profusely -- I thought your original post was soliciting for a date.

@GlyndonD You're forgiven.

Yes, a long time ago. I thought it was good. IMO It depends a bit on the individual situation (case by case) and the leaders of the meeting and such.

I have not but want to. Their is a local group near me. They have open to public camping weekends in the summer. I just seem tobe busy when they have it.

Where do they meet...?

@Bamabread64 , local taverns or libraries in the winter. Nothing is " local" for me though.

@Boudica that's my problem the ones that I know of are always over 300 miles away...

1

there was never one less than 100km from me that I knew about

1

No, not my scene. I prefer smaller groups.

I prefer groups of 4-6 but I can successfully hide in groups of 7 or more.

@ElusiveMoby Yes, smaller, intimate groups are more personal and fun. I also tend to avoid most social gatherings.

1

No.
Logistics are not my friend.

That's actually a shame. I'm sorry to hear it.

@ElusiveMoby Thanks. It's cool. It is what it is.

I have not, may like the chance to.

My people are atheists and skeptics. I think I'd like to meet some in person.

I am on the board of directors of the Humanists of the Treasure Coast in Florida and Meetup is one of several tools we use to attract new members.

Ive always wondered but I've mostly been in smaller towns where I've felt outnumbered. That needs to change.
Does anyone know of any such groups near or around Toronto, ON?

Look on Meetup

I have in the previous city I lived in. There is not one where I currently live.

0

I have and I enjoyed it. I also joined a secular singles group that is a lot if fun.

0

I have many times in a few cities/states. Some are better than others.

0

I would like to, but the one nearest to me is a two hours plus round trip 😟.

Thanks for the reply. It would be the same for me. The fog tonight will keep me home.

0

Never. Might be interesting, depending on you get to meet.

Nope

Yes, I am a member of a Phoenix area atheist group. Mostly I just go hiking with them, but their hiking schedule conflicts with my movie schedule.

The movie schedule is important!

@ElusiveMoby I have my own Meetup group, we go to matinees on Sunday afternoons.
