Stephen King fan here.

His novels have chilled me but most of his horror stories adapted to screen don't work.

My favorite movie adaptation was "Shawshank Redemption," which has nothing to do with horror except of the human kind.

Do you have a favorite?

The Green Mile was very good and very true to the book, as I recall. He has recently talked about how his stories are better suited to a longer form of storytelling, like a mini-series, as opposed to a film.

His collections of short stories are my favorites. Shawshank Redemption is great. I also love The Green Mile. I want them to do a Firestarter 2. Drew Barrymore comes back and reprises her role.

The Stand was my favorite, followed by The Shining. I really like most of his books. I didn't like Misery or Dumas Key. He wrote Dr Sleep as a sequel to The Shining, which was very good. He has written so many that I can't even list them all, but I read nearly everything that he writes.

first half of the stand was brill second half not so good

The Stand is my favorite King novel. I loved the mini-series too.

Did he write The Shining?

I'm a big fan of his too, have not watched one of his movies that live up to the novel or short story they were adapted from, The Stand is my favorite book with the gunslinger series running a real close second, favorite movie adaptation is The Green Mile.

THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION is a wonderful movie! It especially appeals to me because the Tim Robbins character seems to have Asperger's Syndrome (a condition I have).

Brian de Palma's version of CARRIE with Sissy Spacek is pretty effective as his horror adaptations go: it captures that awkward time in adolescence when you feel torn between your parents and your peers, and understood by neither.

I also like David Cronenberg's movie of THE DEAD ZONE. (Haven't seen the TV version.)
"What would you do? Would you kill [Hitler]?" "All right. All right. I'll give you an answer. I'm a man of medicine. I'm expected to save lives and ease suffering. I love people. Therefore, I would have no choice but to kill the son of a bitch!"
