So - I'll admit I'm really good at being a loner, and have practiced this "self-isolating" stuff way before now. And I've no problem finding things to do.
However, it would sure be nice to have an interesting, warm human to isolate with at this time ! I'm really missing hugs n' stuff ... (Cats help surely !)
For those that live alone, how are you doing with your isolation time ?

I've always been an introvert and not very good at having a social life so I'm used to being alone. I spend a lot of time goofing off, surfing the internet, playing games online, reading, watching TV/movies. And I do go out at least once or twice a week for groceries or to run various errands.

Folks laugh but I haven';t had the influenza in 10 years tho I have not had the vaccines. I know how to self isolate as a lifestyle choice.. People are not laughing at me anymore as they once did. But then I see no people anymore as a retired introvert.

Learn to be a lone, not lonely!!!

My three cats that adopted me, keep me busy!!!

Oh, yes the eight to ten feral cats I feed daily are fun too!!!

There really hasn't been much of a change except that all my traveling has been curtailed. The young girl that comes over to help with my housework just messaged me that her husband woke up with a fever, so we are postponing this week indefinitely. I realized how much I valued the interaction with her when I got really disappointed just seeing her message. I miss the traveling more than anything.

It's interesting to consider the value those small interactions had in our lives all along, isn't it?

@Lauren I know, sometimes you really don't know what you had until it's gone.

I agree that postponed travel will be really hard. I hope your helper's husband just has an ordinary illness so you won't have to wait too long to have her over!

@glennlab And "They paved paradise" has been running through my head! 🙂

@JenBeberstein i hope so too, They have two little kids and i was a little worried since munchkins are little germ factories with one in school and one in daycare.

@glennlab is the virus bad in Dallas? Living about 60 miles from the nearest big city, our germ factories are still just carrying ordinary bugs.

@JenBeberstein No one is really sure, the reactions are severe, but without testing, we have no idea. I have had a compromised immune system for some time and with my recent cancer surgery, I hate taking chances.

Same for me. I certainly don't lack things to do.

I lost my cat at the beginning of the year and am really missing her this week. Perhaps I'm more social in my seclusion than I believe, or maybe it's the loss of simple "people" interactions like going to the library, but this isolation feels different than my usual reclusiveness.

My condolences on the loss of your cat - that's never easy.
And I notice too - it's one thing choosing to isolate, and another to more or less have to ... definitely feels different.

@MissKathleen, thank you! {{{ hugs }}} And I will.

@evergreen Thank you.

And I think that may be the prime reason: being told to isolate. It chafes to have control taken away. But perhaps the antidote is what @MissKathleen suggested ... we keep interacting.

...I don’t even have a cat 😟 I’m pretty good at it, though. Felt I’d died after selling the family homestead and heading east, alone… The smallest of things became special. Coming here is nice, thus I’m addicted.

Actually, I make friends easy, but seem to now prefer alone, as to with.. Haven’t told anyone, yet ..but this self-isolating feels like a vacation!

I've been missing hugs for YEARS now. I'm going to try to get some people to do video calls.

I have never had virtual sex.

I don't think of it as isolation time but as me time and I'm getting more and more selfish with that. I find that that I enjoy the company of the opposite sex, but in small doses, and that isn't a sexual reference. I'm just pretty ok with being by myself. I do have a dog, a rottie, and he's very affectionate.

Not much different for me.

I'm not a loner even though I haven't had a boyfriend for 3 years. I've had lots of buddies to run around with but know I should keep them at a distance for a while.

I have a sweet old dog and a new to me cat. Trying to figure out how to handle the cat situation is keeping my mind quite busy since I am really not a cat person. The cat is definitely a people person so I am the object of his affection constantly. He obviously does not know that I'm the reason he no longer has balls.

I can’t even imagine how my snuggle buddy dog would react if I brought a cat into the house that wanted to hang with me! 😄🐈🐕

@Barnie2years My sweet old dog was a stud in a puppy mill before I adopted him at age 5. It was 3 years before he would snuggle at all. Now we have specific snuggle times in the morning when we 1st wake up and again after his breakfast. The only other times are when I initiate it.

He knows what the word no means and when he growled at the cat I told him no now he just looks at me with sad eyes as the cat approaches.
It looks like you have a happy little shitzu And the one I know would not react well to a cat in the house

I crave the isolation sometimes.

I’m in the same boat you are. The dog and I have been isolating for most of four years, and before that for close to ten with a cat. Would love to have a female person to snuggle with, by have accepted the chances of that happening are pretty slim.

I too am like you. Glad I have my cats though, they do like to cuddle. My dogs not so much and my parrots just think that cuddles = rip my face off time......

I'm much like you x
