Do you think the Corono-virus will hurt or help religion?
Well you could argue that they are more likely to rely on prayer rather than medicine and practical behaviours so more of them will die, so hurting religion. But most of them are hypocrites anyway so they'll say one thing and do another. So it will probably have little effect.
Well if there is any consolation more priests (pedophiles) are dying now.
Help. When insecure, unthinking folks are threatened by calamity or death, they turn to religion to be saved.
Exactly
Maybe hurt fundamentalists' effort IF the government continues to squash the selling of religious cure-alls and snake-oil
It is hurting it right now at one level- in Australia all mosques and churches are closing by govt edict to ensure gatherings of over 100 are not spreading the virus. This in turn will hurt the offertory income on which they rely.
At another level, this will heighten anxiety in the wider community and cause some to turn to god(s). Others will leave disillusioned.
So then, there will be mixed results when this is all over.
The Fourth Seal—Death
7 When the Lamb broke the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth living creature saying, “Come.” 8 I looked, and behold, an ashen horse; and he who sat on it had the name Death; and Hades was following with him. Authority was given to them over a fourth of the earth, to kill with sword and with famine and with pestilence and by the wild beasts of the earth.
Notice the word ""pestilence."" I think the coronavirus qualifies as pestilence. I suspect that the religious bigots will say that Bible Prophecy is coming true..
Hopefully, the preachers preaching this B.S. will come down with the virus then die. Just in time to fulfill their wishes for a quick flight to heaven. The sooner the better.
Preachers are already saying it, especially the televangelists.
We will get more resilient through science and they will have heard it all before through pestilence and plagues so will not improve and therefore stay less flexible than they could be and more susceptible to evolutionary change i,e more likely to die out.
I find in my humble (and my arrogant) opinion that religion (all of mans) are but myth and fiction - however I don't expect to see any real change in my lifetime. I am a devout (LOL) secular Buddhist and don't cotton to any made up deity
By the way, what do Buddist believe, besides there is no Allah and no Jesus? Do you have multiple gods? Do you have pagonism? very little is known about Buddism in the QWest.
I think there is no one Buddhist to worship. Which is good. I also think Buddhism is a theory of thought. Buddist don't worship a god. They believe in the here and now. Is this true? Please give this site an insight into Buddhism. I don't think of it as a religion, but rather as a way of thinking about our existence. Being an agnostic, I think Buddhism might be the answer to man's theological existence.
It will make no difference whatsoever because the ignorant love this.
Many religionist aren't ignorant. Something else must be going on to promote rational adults to believe that there is a god.; I guess that it is their upbring or brainwashing. I dunno.
Pretty much depends how the churches try to spin it.
It is certainly time for all bricks to be in the air. It depends on how they fall into order when it is over .
Hurt. Their supposed god is obviously powerless. Those teetering on belief will recognize that. The deepest believers will probably die.
Of course there will be surviving idiots ..who’ll bless their god they didn’t die … so those in the realm of realism must stay vigilant
What an interesting question, I thought. And thought, but could not come up with an answer. Yet I wanted to know the truth myself. I too don't trust the Abrahamic religions to be overly threatened by anything. Over the centuries they have become so saturated with power that they seem to think they are God. A God of their own making!
I think it would depend on the power of the climax this pandem reaches. But it begs the question, if there is a God, why is this permitted. ... and so many other atrocities.
Personally, I think the virus will end-up hurting religion. Of course, some will pray more often with more enthusiasm. However, the world is moving away from religion, although slowly. I think many will see that Science, not religion is better suited for solving crises.
In the end, it might hurt and help to the same degree. We never know how religious cults like Christianity and Islam will react.
Hopefully this is the Rapture that they have been praying for!!!
We can expect it too take a lot of then out as prayer will not save the vast majority!!!
to the faithful any result (good or bad) will reinforce their beliefs. but it is helpful to continuously point out the hollow (and often harmful) results of religious beliefs and practices in a time where science needs to be at the forefront to those who have a more rational sense . . . hopefully change their minds
