Are these the only references of "germs"

Judges 13:4

Therefore be careful and drink no wine or strong drink, and eat nothing unclean,

Leviticus 15:13

“And when the one with a discharge is cleansed of his discharge, then he shall count for himself seven days for his cleansing, and wash his clothes. And he shall bathe his body in fresh water and shall be clean.

If indeed that that's the case, then isn't that pretty darn negligent of an all powerful / all knowing Creator?

not even a lil heads up eh!

It is telling and compelling that religions that claim to have an inside track have utterly failed to inform humanity. Not one religion conceived of evolution or germ theory or any other info on that level. The take home: religion and prayer are bull shit.

Why does it matter what the bible says...we all know it’s a work of fiction not a scientific reference book.

But they acted on this and thought it HAD to be true,

@Mcflewster I’m sure some of them still do...I just don’t think there is any point in a bunch of nonbelievers discussing it, or asking questions about why a “notional” god didn’t have more to say on the subject of germs. The bible is fiction and was written by primitive men with limited knowledge of germs and biology, and not by an all knowing creator.

@Marionville I still think it is important in the formulation af ways of countering what they are saying in reply to "Taunts" . It is important to know the M.O. of your adversary

@Mcflewster Being well armed in anticipation of attack!

The thing to remember is that the truth about germs was out there. The information was available to anyone with the ability to understand it. God, or whatever you choose to name it, isn't an all powerful , all knowing sentient being, God, or whatever, is all knowledge, all power, and all sentience. Looking at it this way, our job is to increase our capacity to acquire knowledge. Increase our ability to use this power, and increase our own sentience. This is the whole point of meditation. It increases our mental capacity and opens the door for discovery. Then we have to actively work to acquire more and more knowledge and ability (power).

They do not reference germs in any way, germ theory did not exist then.

" eat nothing unclean"
There is a list of such foods, mostly ones the desert peoples of way back then had no way of preserving safely, like pork, which requires a LOT of water in processing.
These foods could make one very ill, thus unclean, but with no grasp of germs at all.

"the one with a discharge"
This could be any infection with pus, or anything making you vomit or excrete.

"The miasma theory was the predominant theory of disease transmission before the germ theory took hold towards the end of the 19th century, and it is no longer accepted as a scientific theory of disease. It held that diseases such as cholera, chlamydia infection, or the Black Death were caused by a miasma (μίασμα, Ancient Greek: "pollution" ), a noxious form of "bad air" emanating from rotting organic matter."--Wiki

My guess is that they didn't understand any more than that cause and effect idea of David Hume, i.e., we know because it always works out that way. A lot of the purification rules were designed to keep the temple holy, in the sense of separated from impurity. For this reason, even cripples and the mentally ill were barred from the temple.

There is no "he" to have given us anything. Gods are imaginary. Somebody writing these scriptures used a little common sense but there is nothing here at all about germs. The closest they knew about germs was a belief in invisible spirits that wound enter you or bother you.

He, the creator, gave us what is called a fighting chance ??? Never mind Fighting stops in Heaven. How boring!

Numbers 19:11Whoever touches any dead body will be unclean for seven days. 12He must purify himself with the water on the third day and on the seventh day;

quarantine out side of city
Numbers 5:2
"Command the Israelites to send away from the camp anyone with a skin disease, anyone who has a bodily discharge, and anyone who is defiled by a dead body.

"...darn negligent of an all powerful / all knowing Creator..." Perhaps all powerfull/ all knowing isn't quite as "ALL" as you think or assume it would be implied to be.

Wikipedia example that all powerfull could mean different things:
The term omnipotent has been used to connote a number of different positions. These positions include, but are not limited to, the following:

A deity is able to do anything that it chooses to do.[1] (In this version God can do the impossible and something contradictory.[2])
A deity is able to do anything that is in accord with its own nature (thus, for instance, if it is a logical consequence of a deity's nature that what it speaks is truth, then it is not able to lie).[citation needed]
It is part of a deity's nature to be consistent and that it would be inconsistent for said deity to go against its own laws unless there was a reason to do so.[3]

Why should we care what this book of fantasy has to say?
Another medical assertion. . .

Matthew 10:8 Heal the sick, raise the dead

We shouldn’t … other than the fact it’s instantly shoved in our face as “proof” of their supposedly omnipotent god..

2

Who the fuck cares what the bible says, it's so full of crap from book 1 that anything that follows has lost any referential credibility whatsoever.

^...

There is NO reference to germs, viruses or bacteria in the Hebrew Scriptures or the Christian bible. Although there were some good guesses that some tiny “seeds” or “spores” might play a part in spreading infectious diseases in Late Classical and Medieval times, microorganisms were not discovered until the 17th Century. The idea of ritual “pollution” and “cleansing” in the quote is ancient and common in many religious traditions, but has nothing to do with biology.

What is this actually referencing in The Bible, I mean you gave me a "but with no context

2

First of all, don't use that book for anything but toilet paper, make sure you crumble it really good, it's kind of rough on the bung hole.

1

There is a section in the Talmud that speaks of a thousand tiny demons swarming in a single drop of rancid water.
So there may have been some inkling of germ theory in OT times.

Nothing but fairy tales and myths.
