So, tonight my husband got called an apostate whose after-death destination will be hell. Let me start from the beginning, we share a house be with my parents. We get the downstairs and they have the upstairs, but we share the kitchen. My husband had made a comment about moldy bread he almost consumed and said if it killed him we'd know why. My dad, overhearing him asked, "But do you know where you're going when you die?" Leave it to dad to take any opportunity to insert the gospel. My hubby told him that he already became a Christian at some point. And Dad said his actions were that of an apostate. Then my husband asked, "So you believe Christianity is works-based? I thought the work on the cross was to end death so that you don't have to work for it anymore. That would make God a liar." Dad said, "That's not true!" They bantered back and forth and eventually things does down. Then hubby took his food and escaped to the comfort of our room downstairs. How do you all react when someone calls you an apostate?

"Yes, I am an apostate, and I am proud of it!"

No one has ever called me an apostate. That has four syllables. I usually only get called names that have two or three syllables.

Open laughter

Call me anything you like, just don't call me late for dinner!

then steer them to Youtube, Pray to The Milk Jug

Have rhem watch Hitchens and Dawkins. I think they will look upon your husband more kindly when they get a taste of uber-apostasy! 🙂

Since you all live under the same roof and are family react neutrally. Why would husband be bothered anyway?

Nobody calls me an apostate. If somebody did, I'd probably just laugh and remind them what their bible says about being judgmental.

How do you react when someone says that santa isn't coming to you because you've been a bad girl? Who gives a shit and why would you bother to even argue?

Flip them the bird

Well, it's never happened and technically, it is a correct statement. Since I have no belief or concern about their god or religion, I'd probably laugh.

I would just look at him and say, that's your opinion, and opinions are like assholes, everyone got one and like everyone elses yours don't count, and walk away.

He is an apostate and there is nothing wrong with it, despite the rancor of your parent. An apostate simply abandoned a previous belief system. I ignore the ill-chosen words of the unenlightened.

Only Christians can go to hell and here's why . According to the Bible , God created angels . The angels revolted , and Lucifer was cast out of heaven . If it were not for God , angels and Lucifer would not exist , therefore no God means no Satan , and no Hell .

I thought we had proved that the bible was just shoe leather.

Maybe? But where do atheists go? Nowhere?

Thanks, but I’ll take the bus.

My skin crawls every time someone calls me an apostate. Maybe because I've grown to resent that terminology. From the Christian perspective, an apostate is someone who resents or blasphemes God, and that is the ultimate sin worthy of torture in hell. They can't fathom that a person just cannot believe anymore, but rather it's a willful rebellion.

No one has ever called me an apostate, with me they use stronger language.

Luckily I can avoid situations like this. But once, when I was 17, I was "gang-prayed". Being quite the delinquent I was drunk and ended up in a convenience store parking lot when I got sick (from drinking) and puked. This gang of Christians got out of their car and walked up and proceeded to hold hands in a circle around me and one other of them who had walked up, put his hand on my head and began to pray. It was something about making Satan leave me or something. I was to drunk to fight back but not so drunk to forget. Now I remember it and think it's hilarious. Hopefully someday you will feel the same. If I were called an apostate I would find it hard not to laugh.

I laugh if I'm called an apostate......because I know they are an asshole.

I don’t react at all. No one really knows what is like after death. Scriptures and history books religiously planned to be in power and find ways of brainwashing people generation after generation and we witnessed it everyday. I do my best to ignore such situation and play cool so I will not upset them because in general old religious people knows everything already and no need for other option even if it is the truth and facts.

Well, I do nothing. I like the idea that it gives some people wicked comfort to know that I will burn in hell. Put another way, I make Christians happy. I lime making people, even Christians happy. Makes sense?

What are ya gonna do? Indulge them? Confront them? Discretion may be the better part of valour. What a drag!

I'd get myself a "Proud Apostate" t-shirt or cap and wear it constantly around the house. You are not taking your fact based reasoning with enough pride. Talk about it whenever the opportunity arises and be the aggressor for a change. It's not something to be ashamed of. Nobody likes to be preached to including Christians.

I'd consider it a compliment

Well, I was never raised religious, so I don't think the apostate thing applies. But I have heard the arguments and I compare them to the idea that if you step on a crack, you'll break your mothers back.

I have stepped on many a crack in my time and although my mother does suffer from back aches, it's less to do with poorly managed roads and sidewalks and more to do with the fact that she's in her late sixties. The two are not connected. It's just a bunch of stupid superstitions.

Who digs a pit for others to fall into ends up in it himself
No one has ever gone up to heaven,
Work to make your calling and election sure

and imo rejoice when someone calls you names, meh, that is how you change minds, right, when you can't get offended, no buttons to push? Who needs a religious person's blessing, anyway, right? Imo Yah would not be offended if the response were "oh, i'm a satan worshipper now" lol

there is no condemnation in those who are in Christ means your dad should not be condemning anyone, right, only believers read that differently huh lol
