A bit late in seeing this, but still, Ugh! I suppose it had to be obvious. Churches pushing not only for parishioners to ignore health guidelines on Covid-19 but also to fork over their stimulus checks to churches.

It so disgusting that people manipulate vulnerable and often poor people to give to the church

Yes, it is all about money the next thing for them will be that they make sure to will everything they have to the church.

Those supposed ministers are greedy, corrupt charlatans.

"Supposed"? Nah, they are real. Being a greedy, corrupt charlatan fits perfectly well with being a legitimate preacher!

@Observer-Effect True. But I get what Wordywalt is saying. To "minister" is to serve the needs of others in some way. A very dubious claim with some of these evangelists' track records.

Fork over their checks!! I've always known I was in the wrong business but I guess I have a conscience

Religion is a business and not an ethical one.

I agree it's terrible. My father is 88 and believes by giving all his to church it will save him. He will be broke soon.

I am not surprised - churches like abusing and controlling people. The churches I was dragged to as a kid did public humiliation of the poorest members. They would publish the amount every member donated at the end of the year. Those who were poor and could not donate much were sneered at and ostracized.

Just SPREADIN' THE LUV O' JESUS! ...by ignoring every teaching in the gospels. Yay America?

This is unbelievable! Hitchens was right Religion Kills.

That sounds about right.

The oldest industry has to maintain its profit margin and let’s not forget that they make money from death as well.

Preying on the weak minded.

3

Who would be surprised by this?

The damn fool clergy have it coming, but I can't revel it this. The virus spreads terribly indiscriminately. And I somehow doubt churches are learning the right lessons of accountability from this.

They only believe in "accountability" when they it is they who have been wronged.
No one else.

@KKGator Isn't that basic human nature? It is just like people's concern with "fairness," as if that is some kind of law of nature. Don't get me wrong; I am all for society and organizations striving for fairness in rules and procedures(we will never achieve that fully), but LIFE is never ever a matter of fairness, and trying to define it is even elusive. So is accountability, in practice.

I somehow doubt churches are learning the right lessons of accountability from this.

Of course not, all they care about is money, but the more of their parishioners that die, the less money they'll get and the less likely Trump will win.

Your average god fearing , hard working , law abiding folk . Do intentionally mean well.
Presently the sickening, ignorant , mindless destruction of historic artworks . Mirrors quite well with the sickening, ignorant, mindless destruction of religious leaders.

@Fred_Snerd Life lived by Americans in a different time . Is wrongly reflecting on today's citizens . Anyway. Its more the aggravated, low IQ vandalism in the style taken to remove the structures that pisses me off . Seeing one idiot get sconed by a falling head . Sums up their reckless reactionary actions.
What's wrong with local council running petitions . & If nay wins . The protesters put up their own perceived wothy statues right next door.. . The graffiti removal people stay busy at least. Then if the protesters win & it's removed proffesionally. Everyone stays civilized. The twats jumping on the hunk of brass, feeling they have defeated the figure in real life. You need Richard Attenborough narrating. That would suit the spectacle..

@Fred_Snerd Dystopian future.

Churches may be working both sides of this issue since they are eligible for stimulus money stipulated for businesses. I suppose they aren't expected to pay back stimulus money they bilk from their congregants.

Good. Let. Them. All. Die. Biden may have a shot if we all keep our mouths shut.

You might know!

They think they will go to a lovely afterlife. Meanwhile for the rest of us, this is absolutely terrifying. This should not be a taboo subject from a health or political standpoint, and be called out publicly.

How old is this report? Easter was mentioned.
The comment "The CDC illustrated how a Chicago funeral became a "super-spreader event" that "played a significant role in transmission" of the virus." reminded me of Africa during the Ebola crises. People attended funerals of Ebola victims only to contract the disease themselves. Are we no smarter than that? Don't people see what is happening in other churches? It did say only 17% did attend one service so some must be listening.
