I stopped reading when I read this totally opinionated, non-fact-based, lie;

"This school of thought is in reality not on the political left because it has abandoned Enlightenment values."

The left? the "progressives" have " abandoned Enlightenment values."?

Wow...

1

Everytime a so-called leftist defends religions, Karl Marx makes one spin in his grave.

2

Language evolves differently now than it had previously in human history. Advertising has been used to change the meaning of words. Now, political advertising is used to change the meanings.

It's interesting how words evolve, particularly new ones, but this evolution often confuses people. Many of my Black friends still use "woke" in the way the Black community originally used it, and if you asked them today if they're woke, they would say they are. And they are definitely liberal/left politically.

Thank you! Wow! That is a thorough article.
Mindsets that like identify themselves as leftist, but which are not the real left, boggle one's mind.
'Woke' leftists obscure the real issue -- they allow capitalism free rein.
All of the fake leftism boils down to a lot of BS that denies equality.

So true.

It bothers me to no end that I, an actual leftist, get lumped together with the woke democrats who are not leftists but rather capitalist neoliberals who believe in social justice.

@RoboGraham Is it possible to agree on some issues and disagree on others? A lot of my angry militant friends back in 2000 who worked with me for Ralph Nader, are now for Trump. Most of my friends who were mad at me for not supporting Gore, are still progressive. What does that tell you?

@barjoe

Well, it tells me that people's political convictions can change over the course of two decades.

And yes of course people can agree on some things and disagree on others.

@RoboGraham It tells me, they were full of shit then and they're full of shit now. They angrily regurgitated leftist rhetoric (I'm not putting down Ralph ) and today they angrily parrot Trump stuff. That's my observation now that I'm voting in my 11th presidential election.

@barjoe

Okay, sounds like they never were leftists.

@RoboGraham They thought they were. Marxists They hated liberals then. They hate liberals now.

You're talking about people who believe that being liberal or lefty is all about PC and identity politics, which describes most Dem supporters these days, but they really don't give a damn about economic equality or economic justice. They are comfortably in the upper middle class, so they already have theirs..

@barjoe all your friends just got back from that loooong trip to Pluto? Or emerged from their Mom's basement where they have huddled for 4 decades in the dark? "Marxist"???!!!??

@AnneWimsey He's about 50 now and He votes Republican. Yeah he claimed to be a Marxist back then, we both worked for Ralph Nader in 2000.

@RoboGraham

"people's political convictions can change over the course of two decades." Such as Biden's and Harris's?

@LucyLoohoo

Possibly but I haven't seen any indication of it.

And it's different between politicians and regular people. When politicians have harmful political convictions, there are real world consequences. It takes more than just a change of opinion over time to make up for that.

Wokeism is what used to be called political correctness. My resume should be enough, I don't have to prove how socially aware I am by cancelling others with selfrighteous indignation. Woke is a great word if it describes "becoming politically aware" When terminology comes out, people throw it around too much.

I rather suspect the political Right has more to do with defining terminology like this than those that actually consider themselves it or aspiring to it.

@prometheus They steal everything and make it they own.
