One thousand five hundred and thirteen of Amy Barrett's college alumni are “firmly and passionately opposed to her nomination" because she fails to represent their views and values. Barrett's abortion views are a particular point of contention. She voted at least twice on abortion issues as an appellate judge, both times against abortion rights.

The letter from her alumni states “Amy Coney Barrett has repeatedly shaded the truth about her own views and past associations, has demonstrated a judicial philosophy and record that fails to serve and protect the vulnerable in our society, including immigrants, those in the criminal justice system, and individuals reliant on the Affordable Care Act."

One can easily see from her actions that she is more influenced by her religious beliefs than the laws of our republic. She is not fit to sit on the highest court of our nation.

Aren't these the reasons she was nominated in the first place?

Trump hand picked her because of her ultra-conservative background and reputation.

As seems to be the 'run of the mill' with most Western forms of Politics and Governments those in power ONLY elect/select those whom they see as being of like-minded or most beneficial to them and NOT either the Population at large or the Nation as a Whole.

I wish I could disagree 🙁

Sad. Infuriating, true.

I had to read your opening statement twice. I could have sworn it said something about "Run of the MILF."

@RiverRick Maybe you may wish to check out the deals available through "Spec-Savers" then....LOL.

@RiverRick Your mind runs a lot like mind.

No surprise. It is the tribal thing. You choose from your in-group only. The problem always becomes that some people from your own in group will support positions and action that will be or are detrimental to you personally or your family. Trump deflects covid 19 and facemasks to please his knucledraggers and he and some of his knuckle draggers get Covid 19.

@Healthydoc70 As to the 'Supreme Knuckledragger' and his supposed Covid Infection I've just seen that he has ALREADY been released from hospital.
So, imo,
a) IT is all a scam ploy to win more sympathy votes,
b) we can all expect to see and hear him thanking his God-mobster supporters for their prayers and how Jeebus and God heard them and saved him,
c) just how these 'miraculous' new drugs, etc, he took worked so well and so quickly, just as did his taking that 'Quinine' type drug earlier help him battle the virus better and faster,
d) how Jeebus and God saved him so He and he alone can lead America towards becoming great again, and last but by no means least,
e) his ego will now go from where it always has been to a point where he will, possibly, start thinking of himself as being the New Messiah of America.
As I posted earlier, this 'Covid' diagnosis, etc, etc,' smells, to me as a nurse with many. many years spend treating and caring for patients with ALL kinds of illnesses, including ones as severe and often fatal as Viral Pneumonia and other very severe Breathing illnesses, just a whole lot fishier than a Street Hooker's Twat after a very, very heavy night's work.

Her adherence to her religious beliefs makes her unfit to serve as a Supreme Court Justice.
She has made her positions clear for many years.
A person's religious beliefs shouldn't matter, but in her case they most certainly do.
She is a terrible choice, and we shouldn't have to live with her malfeasance for the
rest of her life.

It's my contention that Supreme Court justices should be secular people.

@mischl I agree with that assessment.
However, in the case of RBG, she didn't allow her religious beliefs to stand in the way of doing what was right, for everyone.
The same cannot be said of Barrett.

A Supreme Court Justice’s job is not to follow people’s views and opinions. It is to interpret the law based on the constitution.

Exactly the point. She admits to being strongly influenced by her commitment to the 1,700-strong, tightly knit, interdenominational charismatic lay-Christian parachurch community called People of Praise which, among other things, believes in women being subservient to their husbands, and yielding to their authority in ALL MATTERS.

@mischl I don’t think she would be in her current position if they was true.

@CourtJester "If they was true?" I don't understand your meaning.

@CourtJester - Michele Bachmann held a similar view of women being subservient and obedient to men. She held a seat in congress and ran for president. We can only suppose her husband gave her permission to do so. We have to ask if she needed to ask her husband about which way to vote on matters before the House or if he gave her some kind of blanket permission to make up her own mind (heaven forbid). The point, however, is that religious women do hold these kinds of beliefs relegating themselves (and all women if they could) to second class status even when doing so is an apparent contradiction to the positions of power and authority (even over men).

Can this be presented at the hearings?

It certainly should be. But if we make enough noise, the nomination might be withdrawn. We need to scream and yell, and write lots of letters and posts.

@mischl You can't really believe that can you?
Look at the noise over Kavanaugh. Fuck, he had someone testify in front of Congress about him committing sexual assault. Not only did they not withdraw, they backed him and confirmed him. Furthermore, at that time they were not racing against a clock. There wouldn't be time to withdraw her and nominate/confirm someone else before the election. It is my firm belief that there is exactly a zero percent chance they will withdraw her nomination under any circumstance... even if she shot someone on 5th Avenue.

It's not hard to find women that are uncle Toms to women everywhere in the Republican party, especially if they self identify monotonously and a creepy bit too frequently as "Christian."
This one obviously believes in intrusive big government that can chart millions of minstrel cycles to catch offenders?
Funny how they claim to be for "Less" government considering this viewpoint.
They just mean they don't want rules and regulations on corporations to keep public safety and prevent corporate poisoning of the environment.
Their less government tends to push the public into wage slavery and oppressive government over site of personal choices.

She is not fit which translates to Republicans, let's bring her on. If (when) the Democrats take over there will be a lot of explaining and 'culling' (that word has a nice ring to it concerning the criminals of the party) in the GOP.

That's how a Theocracy works.
