I currently became unemployed because my construction company I work for has no projects at this time.
So now, on top of having no electricity because of the hurricane Friday, I am going to have to collect unemployment, and job hunt because I don't think I'm going to get called back anytime soon.
I'm just waiting for someone to say to me something like "maybe that's god trying to tell you to come back to his herd".

Not sure if its possible for you, but would you have more oppourtinity in Dallas or Houston or a big city? Construction seems live and well in those cities. Just the other day I was thinking I can't drive more than 5 mins before seeing some kind of construction work, mostly road, but buldings too...

That said, I don't know much about construction jobs and the realities of the job market.

Wait, something doesn't add up here.
"I currently became unemployed because my construction company I work for has no projects at this time. So now, on top of having no electricity because of the hurricane Friday..."

What kind of construction company would have no work following a hurricane? Maybe it's time to find another construction company?

Yeah, kinda hard to avoid the god drivel. Anyway, hope things pick up soon. Hard to imagine there will not be any construction work after a hurricane.

Hang in there, Dave. You will make things better.

DavePeet, you get to collect unemployment, unlike so many others in this world. There will be more jobs and you will find it, Change your attitude, dude. All the best.

I wish you luck on your new job search and I hope your home is intact after the hurricane the electricity will come back eventually. One question though, a construction company with nothing to do after a hurricane?

It ain't god or any supernatural anything. It is statistical probabilities with storms, living areas, etc. Chain reactions from events that happen because of some actions by: nature, other people, you. No god. Especially an Abrahanic one.

Oh and best wishes finding work. After a hurricane and things get moved out of the way some construction will open up.

Oh man, that's rough. Keep at it, bro.

Strangely this is how believers think. Merle Haggard once had a song in which he sang "momma used to pray that my crops would fail." Think a minute and here is a religious woman praying her son will lose his crops so that he will come back to the Lord. Plain out pitiful crap.

Beyond that above I'm sorry to hear of your bad news and wish you the best. Stay positive.

In the song, he was a fugitive. He wasn't a farmer. He sang:
"I raised a lot of Cain back in my younger days
While Mama used to pray my crops would fail
Now I'm a hunted fugitive with just two ways"
So what he was raising was "Cain". She was praying he'd stop raising so much hell.

I had to look this up. I'd never heard it.

@Eazyduzzit Thanks for the new insight and I think you are correct. I always took it before that his mother was praying for his livelihood to fail because he was considered not right with god. if I made that mistake as a former Christian just imagine how many believer did also. Many times family and friends do not want you to prosper if you are not godly.

Sorry to hear that brother, stay up.
I wonder how big a dick God must be...to have to kill 220,000 Americans alone, in order to get someone to come back to his flock through a ripple effect of lost wage, layoffs, natural disasters ....Not sure thats a flock I'd want to return to. A simple "No" would have done fine

Dear, a virus killed 220,000 Americans. Let's just get this right.

@Spinliesel God did not create the Virus?

@Spinliesel I was referring to the mindset of the religious. I don't think God created the virus or anything else considering there is no proof for god

@BeeNoble1081 Which god are we speaking of? Shiwa? Odin? Jahwe? I am an atheist, so the thought of some being having created the virus has never crossed my mind. Nature does it.

@Spinliesel

I am an atheist too, but I'm able to put on others "glasses" in order to see through the lens in which they view issues.
For example of your a theist who believes God created everything then it would makes sense for that person that God created this virus as well. God creates good and bad in their eyes, setting aside apologetics for evil in the world.
This is where Dave gets the condescending responce that maybe this is God's way of trying to push him back to the community. To which I said, if you buy into this type of ridiculous thinking; how big of a dick must God be. Id be willing to bet Dave was referring to the Christian community .

@BeeNoble1081 The Bible says god creates good and Good is also the creator of evil so according to bible god created it. But the Christians won’t believe their own bible.

I hear that when it rains, it pours.... Hopefully you aren't hearing idiots saying God will provide...

These are tough times, but your positive attitude shines through. Job hunting can be a rollercoaster, but remember, you've got skills that'll land you a great opportunity. Hang in there, and don't let the temporary setbacks dim your resilience. You can also reach out to more successful construction companies, like [starkbuilders.com.au] . I wish you a smooth job search journey!

People have to do what they have to do.
I don’t hold religion against a person unless the farce is strong in them, then I lose patience over their childish crap.
But if you’re scared and alone and desperately need help I’d never hold it against a person for giving religion a hard chance, what could it hurt.
Don’t get me wrong, I don’t go to desperation Jesus anymore because experience tells me it’s useless, but I had to learn myself and I imagine everyone else does too.

Well you certainly won't get the herd call from me. I'm an old fart but I can tell you from personal experience that the skills you have acquired so far in life plus your own self confidence will pull you through! There is nothing wrong with picking up trash until "the man or lady" realizes that you may be able to paint the fence or fix the doorknob! Since you were in the construction industry, use whatever skills you have to start over. It is not easy especially with a family. Most importantly BE HONRST! With "Word of mouth" referrals I went from stamping "for sale" signs at intersections @ $5 per hour to general contractor and never posted an ad. Its not easy or pleasant but it is survival and that is the bottom line!

So sorry to hear of your troubles. I hope your unemployment comes through quickly and you’re able to find some work. I guess the storm really hit your area hard. Be safe and let us know how you’re doing.
