Back when I was studying for my private pilot's license, my instructor once asked me out of the blue (as he sometimes would), "What makes a plane fly?" I began to attempt a description of how a wing produces lift and Bernoulli's principle and such-like, only to have him stop me and provide the answer. Money makes a plane fly.

Your response about Bernoulli's principle is a lot more useful.

That's from "The Right Stuff", only the word that they used was "funding". The rest of the quote is, "no bucks, no Buck Rogers".
