I think that most people have a "go to" comfort food that connects us to others in our families or a situation where that food facilitated some kind of transformation for us (for either good or ill). For me it's Chicken-n-Dumplings. It connects me to memories of both my grandmother and mother. Just the smell makes me feel good. What about you?

My grandmother made pot roast for birthdays or special occasions.
Of course it was delicious because she was the 13th kid born on a southern Indiana farm and she cooked from scratch but even though I know better, I would have sworn I could taste the love.

Damn. I love pot roast

I can no longer eat most food, but if I could, I'd eat cornbread in milk, with a side of streamed collard greens.

@The_Doctor I can't eat most food anymore, but when I did I used vinegar and bacon also. I used to put Tobasco sauce on everything, but now I add fresh Thai hot peppers to everything instead. For some reason, this sooths my stomach

6 eggs 2 cups flour stir until smooth....spoon into boiling water....wait till they float... butter garlic and caramelized onions.... sour cream if you're feeling froggy. You have now made spitzle.....im sorry for the inevitable weight gain

Looks delicious! yum! For me and my family its a seafood feast. Stuffed quahogs, Cod, Haddock, swordfish, lobster, scallops, Clams (steamers, fried, raw/cherrystones), oysters...

I wish I knew what 1/2 of those things were, but if it is seafood, I eat it.

It’s interesting to see what brings us back to the past. The first thing that comes to mind is eating those classic ice cream sandwiches at my grandpa’s farm while he was still alive. I was pretty young but I remember him ending a manic, philosophical rant with “And in ‘Universe time’ we’re only here for a split second!” I realize in hindsight his metaphor was meant to impress upon me the preciousness of our time alive and the vastness of the Universe. He was almost certainly the first person to expose me to that cosmic frame.

I enjoy what is often considered breakfast foods-bacon, eggs, sausage, french toast etc. Brings back some fond memories...

Oh wow. I have a LOT of comfort foods from my childhood. But if I had to pick one, it would be my Mama's fried chicken. I'm the youngest of six children. After we were all grown up and moved from home, Mama would invite all of us over once a month for a 'family dinner.' Fried chicken was what we all asked for. There is so many great memories revolving around family and food.

Hmmm... black beans on rice, fried plantains, and pork smothered in onions and lemon juice.

Banana Pudding. With real meringue, not that whipped cream nonsense.

1

Red chili cheese enchiladas and red chili pork tamales the way my mother and grandmother made them.

2

My mom's cabbage rolls. Whenever she makes them, she makes extra for me. I either go over to her house to get them, or she'll bring them over. They're pretty easy...I suppose it's time I learned how to make them myself! ...OK, I'm calling mom....

Lox bagel and cream cheese reminds me of my family ate together on Sunday ams. During the week we ate out often.

I know what you mean about chicken-n-dumplings (southern style, of course). It is probably my go-to comfort food also, since I was born in the south and my mom was the second-best cook in the world, right behind my mammy (grandma).
