Republican leaders and politicians (and those of all political stripes with libertarian tendencies) have never been honest about their core thrusts and beliefs. Instead they have hidden them in false propaganda and misrepresentations. Let’s take three constant Republican issues as examples: taxes, over-regulation by government, and government overreach.

Republicans always take the position that they want to decrease the burden of taxation on the common man, on the middle class. If we judge by what has been done over the years, that is not true. In virtually all tax relief legislation he least reduction of taxes has accrued to the lower income and middle class groups. Instead the vast majority of tax relief has gone to the wealthy and high income, and to large corporations.

Further, tax reduction is a smoke screen for Republicans. Their real intent is to disable and downsize government. If the government income is not there, government programs do not function as they should. Then Republicans can say, “We told you so. Big government does not work.” They also say that government needs to be downsized. Tax reduction is simple a means of forcing government downsizing – the party’s real intent.

Republicans always have leaned toward laissez faire capitalism – a completely unregulated free market. If we had a completely unregulated free market, our country would evolve into an authoritarian oligarchy. The rich would become richer and force their will on the rest of us. The fact is that in most cases, regulations would not be enacted if it were not to decrease bad conduct by those acting in a predatory, unethical manner, of exploiting customers, workers, suppliers, and . Or the environment.

Republicans loudly rail against any new program, calling it “government overreach” When Congress enacts a law creating a new program designed to benefit our people and nation, is not government overreach. It is simply called government of, by, and for the people – democracy. That is what they are railing against. Most of them simply want to preserve the status quo, along with unearned privilege.

I do not believe that Democrats have dion similarly to the extent that Republicans have since pre=Civil War days.

And also consider the fact that most American companies operating in foreign countries are now being charged in court with tax avoidance and that foreign countries have had to impose withholding tax levies on payments made in country in order to prevent tax avoidance!

The policies appeal to people that only care about themselves. The lower income people that fall for it think they will be rich someday. Which does not bode well for their understanding and intellect.
