When you have the Abrahamic Belief systems of Christianity, Judaism and Islam that all came from the inspiration of Bronze age ignorant peoples, is it any wonder that these are not good templates for the promotion of womens rights and respect for females in ALL societies including Islamic ones but not excluding Christian ones. And while it may be true that Islamic countries such as Saudi Arabia and Pakistan, Afghanistan etc etc have appalling reputations when it comes to womens rights, we should also remember that Christian churches still oppose the right to choose for women and still refuse to accept that women should have basic reproductive rights that include contraception. It's incredibly offensive that over 50 years after the contraceptive Pill was invented that the Catholic Church still teaches that this is against God's law. And the use of a piece of rubber is more sinful than contracting Aids. So how can we expect the abuse of women and the domestic violence committed against them to be confronted effectively when we still find ourselves in many Christian countries still fighting for the right of a woman to have control over her own body.

I would say that I do commend those who are brave enough to confront Islam's treatment of women especially when they live in an Islamic theocracy. We need to support people who do this, but we also need to get our own house in order in the West. Much work to be done.
