At this point in my life I’m not going to be able to respect Bible thumpers. I don’t have the patience and I’m not going to be lectured about something I will never believe in. I’m trying to live my best life, teach my child to think for herself and do what is right. I’m not being nice anymore to people who have a superiority complex drinking the koolaid. All I do is laugh about the conversations I have, the number of crosses handed to me gets tossed in the trash. I’m mainly harassed at work by these people. I maintain a secular household and at the end of the day I’m in my safe haven. Not going to be so silent anymore. Doing this for my mental health Sorry for the ranting. ❤️

Just give them the old, I love you the believer but really hate your fearful, hateful, hurtful, and dishonest beliefs.

Everyone here feels the same way

Thank you for "ranting". I'm completely on board. Nothing to be sorry about! You are by no stretch of the imagination alone in this mindset. Think it was the summer of my 5th grade when I spent two nights while walking alone in the darkness earnestly trying to decide what I wanted to do with my life. My goal was to choose a career that would allow me to become a beneficial member of society. I examined many options including becoming a preacher. I carefully analyzed what a preacher and (religion) was, what benefit does a preacher provide for the health of society. I came to the conclusion that preachers were parasites. Those that promoted "faith" (including anybody that promotes God or Jesus based on Faith) I considered to be dishonest purveyors of fantasy over reality and worthy of no respect. As I was young and mandated to respect elders, I played along. "confirmation" class was fun. We were assigned lessons based on the bible. When given a topic to study for the next week my objective was to find as many contradictions as I could and throw a wrench into the discussion. Most days my classmate left confused. Still remember the last class. I repeated our teacher's key points and said "Ok. that's just stupid." his response was, "You're right but that's what they want us to teach you." As I grew older and became more aware of the damage religion does to people I spent a great deal of time "hunting" Christians at the YMCA. Although most I talked with left angry or literally ran away, I managed to make several (including a priest) cry, whimper, one even took refuge in a fetal position. With one, I had an excellent polite and equally respectful discussion that lasted into the morning hours long after the YMCA closed. I managed to de-convert two theists although one, after his girlfriend dumped him, returned to the comfort of his imaginary sky daddy. I could write a small book detailing the interactions I have had with theists but suffice it to say, I don't silently take religious shit from theists as I am now well armed to defend my position.

I don't know what is is like where you work. I don't know the work dynamics or policies. You may be able to tell the theists that are bothering you that you consider their behavior a form of harassment and a continuation of this behavior will result with a formal compliant with HR?

If you decide to debate with them, I would recommend (for starters) watching a few hundred hours of "The Atheist Experience" Aron Ra, - - - the list goes on. Edward Tarte (he was a Catholic priest for 5 years) was the last resource I used to break the faith for the Catholic I de-converted.

I think I am the only atheist where I work but most have learned they can not get away with asserting any supernatural magical sky daddy BS. I am usually too busy to interact with the theists. - - coincidental observation - - Three of the four most vocal tRump sniffing, anti-vax, anti-science, climate-change denying, God fearing cross waving theists I encountered at work last year: actually had fun with two of them last year : figured they were on the extreme end of the tin-foil-hat spectrum so in response to their "tRump is our savior sent by God" - I "corrected" them siting the photo-opp at the church where he held the bible upside down- explaining this was a signal from the devil pretending to be a savior to condemn gods followers and send them to hell. They were both visibly worried when I left. 🙂 Anyway. Those three were fired (the only ones fired) last year.

Hope things go well for you.

Why do these God Botherers constantly try to convince us non-believers of how right they are and how wrong we are? My general view on someone that is stuck in a groove and harasses me about something is that they are either trying to defraud me or they are trying to convince themselves of their points as much as they are trying to convince me.

Here in the funny south, they greet each other with some sort of religibberish such as "praise the lord", "bless you", included in every conversation to reinforce their herd nonsense....have a blessed day and stay prayed up! I usually reply "No, thank you!"

@Paganlyl That would drive me crazy. It sounds like a secret handshake to show who is an Insider & who is an outsider. Glad you are not one of the Sheeple & don't fall for the obvious pressure they are trying to exert.

@afrogonalog it is absolutely a dog whistle and they attack you when they don’t get the same response.

@AngiePoo It is bullying behavior by these people and they need to learn respect for others.

What I can't stand hearing is, "Oh the Lord has sooo blessed my life"...to which I usually respond, "that's very nice for YOU but, what's the plan for all these STARVING CHILDREN?" Make sure you smile😁 Bottom line is you know what the truth is.... Just keep hammering them with the truth...they give up eventually because they tie themselves in a knot they can't make sense out of.
I love seeing the look of defeat on their faces. I feel sorry for them but every once in a while you can flip one ... And THAT is worth ALL the effort.

Such rants are happily accepted here. 😉

Right on, Angie. My home is my safe haven and I live alone. I avoid drama in any form and in any place that I can. When I am home I lock the world out. At work I am in the public eye and deliver auto parts for a living. If anyone starts in about religion in my workplace they get reminded that I once studied to be a minister but I am no longer of that persuasion. They usually shut up quickly.

I have been doing the same thing ever since I moved to Ankeny, a small city chock full of Trumper Repubs and conservative Christians. I got tired of having to be in the closet about my politics and my non-belief, so I let my co-workers know I was a socialist and an Agnostic. They mostly just avoided me after that which was fine. Have not done that with my neighbors in my condo building, since I have no need, I rarely interact with them in the first place, so it doesn't matter.

I am glad that you ranted.

Please feel free to try the following on all those mental midgets: "Where is your falsifiable evidence to support your existence claim of your particular god?". This seems to shock them all into silence.

I'm glad you ranted too. It's important to be able to state your piece among those who will understand and support you..

I would be polite but firm to the people at work as I do not believe, unless you are living in a strictly religious country where atheism is illegal, that they are allowed to harass you at work.
That said I had one of my coworkers put some religious rubbish in my pigeon hole, I knew who it was so when she was in the room I pulled it out said loudly, "What is this rubbish?" and threw it in the nearest bin. But I am in Australia and it is pretty close to illegal to do what she did (she did not like my views on evolution and dinosaurs so was trying to educate me)

Outside of work I tend to laugh at them, a lot, develop a few snappy comebacks and if approached drop one and walk away. My fav is, My mother spent 16 years trying to get me to be an xtian and failed, you think you can do better in 5 seconds good luck. and Sorry I am not delusional.

I love your comeback to them.

Also: If god can't convince me it exist..how do you think you can ?

Nice rant. But you do not have to put up with bullies at work whatever they are doing.

5

No one should be harassing you at work.
I don't know where you work, but if you can report it, I sure as hell would.
Good luck.

I'm sorry to hear that you are being harassed at work. For now home is a safe haven. If the Theocracy ever arrives, no place will be safe.
