Scientific knowledge continues to push back the boundaries of superstition and religious dogma but it's not just about facts because in the face of fanatical belief, facts are not convincing.

Even though most people have the ability to read they do not. Thus understanding is beyond their view.

People believe what they wish to be true. Facts have no power over belief. But, no amount of belief can turn belief into facts or truth!

its true to them tho thats what makes that belief crap so crappy

Nice succinct chart! Although dispproving anything is not quite the same as winning a debate. No matter the facts presented, the opposing side can simply (and often does) refuse to acknowledge those facts. Look how the past 5-6 years in the U.S. has glaringly featured the popularity of "alternative facts," ehem. (Gee, thanks, Kelly Ann Conway! 🙄).

As for disproving the soul, it is a bit like dispproving god. The target is easily redefined by its defenders.

Our comments are very much the same but it's always nice to see some positive reinforcement. 🙂

@SnowyOwl Very much the same?!? Why aren't I following you, then? Well I will correct that lapse, for sure. 😉

@SnowyOwl btw, electric bicycle company, eh? Very cool. I lack any entrepreneurial bones in my body, but I am happy to admire creative businesses, ☺️

@MikeInBatonRouge just a little retirement project that my wife dreamed up to keep me busy but while it is a lot of fun it has started to become a going and growing concern that will require a second location and the hiring of staff. Old habits die hard and I have always worked for myself as I make a very poor employee but I am told I am an excellent employer. lol

@SnowyOwl meanwhile, I grew up watching my dad have two businesses fail from unanticipated circumstances out of his control. It instilled in me the desire to work for a big successful corporation, lol

There are downsides, to be sure. Corporate red tape is maddening, as are the endless meetings and required online educational compliance modules, bleh. But to me, dealing with billing on my own would be worse than all of that. I think I must be accounting-phobic! 🤗

@MikeInBatonRouge yes we all have different strengths and interests, do what you love and it's not really work is what I grew up with. I have a lot of retired military as neighbours and I have often been asked if I was ever in the military. I tell them that I never enlisted because it would just meant a lot of time in the military jail for insubordination and failure to follow orders that were stupid. Although, I did own several construction companies and those are run along the lines of a paramilitary operation but since I was the CO it worked for me and it worked for my people, never lost a member of my team in 30 years.

Science if understood properly will eventually free us from religion. A fact is something that can continually be reproduced by anyone given the resources.

I agree. But that part where you say "...if understood properly..." Is a huge caveat, unfortunately. Just look how overwhelmingly often politicians, judges, other civic leaders, social influencers, and even teachers just flat out refuse to heed scientific findings. Fingers in ears--la la la, not listening!

@MikeInBatonRouge Ah! but they have not received the evolving new modern science education which IS EXCITING. I do not want to be a prophet but I have faith that science education will be completely different . Everyone - even veterans and pensioners will study science method, look for evidence, do original science and know the value of peer review etc. All government will be massively loaded with science with the willing co-operation of all citizens. A better future for all.

@Mcflewster Is that a joke? The words scream total facetiousness to me, but with only text, no vocal tone or visual gestures, it is often hard to tell

For the record, I do not agree that neurology disproves the soul. I'm not claiming that the soul exists. I'm just saying that I think this particular statement is conjecture.

I say soul is synonym with what personality is considered now days. The thing with the old term soul is they would consider it, or your unique personality to have some everlasting place in existence.

So, I think the biological understanding of what personality is proves the current existence of a soul. It's just not known or proven if personally or soul last forever.

Side note, is that a 750 street you have?

@Word Yes, that is a Street 750, although that is a 2015, and I very recently traded it in for a 2018. Same make and model, different color:

@Fit50something I bought a 500 and a 750 in 2015. Long story short my daughter doesn't ride her 500 and my son just last week finally titled the 750 in his name. Me and my son rode them from Florida to Texas in 2015. 500 still in storage since, 750 my son is just now starting to ride again.

@Word Harley discontinued the Street model after 2020, and I don't think that they sold a lot of the 500's. If that's just sitting in storage, in good condition, you might get a decent chunk of change from a collector.

No, it's basically accurate. There is no magic genie animating our brains. [qz.com] and [theness.com]

@Druvius atheist Sam Harris explains his ideal of why we don't have free will. I understand what he says, just not so good at explaining it back to you.

But, if something that is cognition brain activity makes decisions for you before you know the decision to take action, then that would or could be evidence of a cognition entity in your brain.

@Fit50something I liked the 500 the best. I am almost 300 lbs but it still moved me around just fine. I fine the less power a more easy enjoying ride around small town slower streets. But, I had still rode the 500 almost 14,00 miles from Florida to Tx.

@Word At this point the evidence for supernatural agency in the universe is zero.

@Druvius maybe your capabilities to do something supernatural is 0.

I hold up a random rock in my hand and say, "This rock proves supernatural cannot exist."

Most of these so call scientific claims of proof in meme are illogical.

You cannot by logical standards say a natural phenomenon over rides something purported to be supernatural.

The logic that wipes out most all of your meme statements would be: IF a supernatural all knowing, all powerful entity exist then in it's all powerfulness and knowing capabilities, it could whiz bang the universe instantly AND would know how to place things like carbon dating so that it appears older than being instantly whiz banged into existence.

So, please consider revising you meme so it would at least be logical if you are claiming scientific evaluation.

Science is the study and observation of nature not super nature. You cannot use science to disprove super nature.

If you do not understand that then you do not understand logic. If you cannot understand ligic then you cannot properly appreciate science. So, please quit illogically using the name of science for something that it cannot disprove.

You are engaging in rhetoric and quite frankly you are not doing a good job of it. You started from the premise that IF there were an omnipotent and omniscient being then it would invalidate science because it is unknowable. IF is pure conjecture on your part, no facts, no evidence and no proof - something I have come to expect from your comments.
No whiz bang to see here, just an imaginary friend supported by an illogical argument.

@SnowyOwl we have a plethora of mind virus organism evidence. I currently cannot say if the historical evidence is how supernatural makes its interaction into natural or if the observable mind virus organism is completely dependent on natural phenomenon as it works within the laws of physics and chemistry as its cognition capability. Otherwise, to say the least something is in fact observable it just may not be something you understand how to observe. Either way, it is one form of something that people call "God" and it is what biblical text purports to have evolved or developed into a person. Jesus character being a "son of meme" organism.

"I have already made up my mind, and I'll thank you to not confuse me with facts!"

The science talk of the big boiel!

True, facts and evidence ALWAYS defeat fiction.

... unless you are a religitard.

@anglophone Ah yes of course, I forgot about them momentarily.
