As a non religious person how do you view lust as defined as an intense sexual desire or appetite?

What does lust have to do with religion?

Religion, for the most part, teaches that list is a sin, and especially in women.

@NoSheep and people listen to that bullshit and somehow instantly stop lusting, I don't think so.

Netflix, HBO, FX, Amazon Prime, and sometimes Showcase.

I view it as an intense sexual desire or appetite.

Creatures have an in-built desire to pro-create.

Honestly, what more is there to say?

The whole lust/sin bullshit is a direct derivative of religion's attempt to control normal behaviour. Make up the concept of lust, declare it a sin, and suddenly it's more significant than it should be.

While lust cannot be accurately classified as a “sin” (an act that doesn’t exist), it is historically associated with an unhealthy, if not obsessive, sexual compulsion which can lead to irrational, self-destructive acts. IMHO, there’s a fine line between lust and healthy sexual desire. The former can lead to ruin while the latter is normal and completely natural.

I don't think in literary tems. When I want it, I do it. Call it by any name.

Sex is as natural as eating and sleeping. Just don't have sex with the ones who are too young.

Or unwilling

Whether as an intense sexual desire or appetite, lust probably belongs only to humans; animals do not fantasise sex.

How would you test those hypotheses?

@yvilletom Observe dogs. A dog doesn't go out to look for a bitch because he fancies a bonk, nor does he have imagination for sexual fantasies - romantic, kinky, etc. He becomes aroused only when he can smell that there is a bitch nearby that is in season and sending signals that she is ready to conceive - that is a reproductive instinct for the survival of the canine species, not a sexual desire or appetite.

@Ryo1 The hypotheses I see that need testing:

  1. Lust probably belongs only to humans.

  2. Non-human animals do not fantacize sex.

  3. Male dogs don’t fancy bonks.

  4. Males dogs become aroused only when they smell nearby bitches sending signals etc.

  5. Males dogs have a reproductive instinct …, not a sexual desire or appetite.

@yvilletom Be my guest.

@Ryo1 San Francisco to St. Davids is a bit far for swimming. I’ll use my canoe.

It is a Biological desire to reproduce…

It's a normal human response.

So I will ignore "as a non religious person". As a human being it is normal to feel lust when I see a really attractive man with moral values and good manners.
But for sexual predators lust doesn't match because they are in a predatory sexual appetite.

I view it … favorably. 😍

I believe one should not create unique definitions. I always use standard dictionary definitions.

Lust is a carry over from the inborn need of species preservation. It can be normal and it can be perverted. To explain sexual perversion briefly, you usually find this involves acts where people go to prison. That happens when they are caught and tried for crimes committed.

Do you ever listen to what you say?

Do you ever even tune in occasionally?
