Clearing the Air

I feel it necessary to respond to a recent complaint by Ryo1 that my motive in joining agnostic.com has been to promote my blog at agnoticliberal.com. I would like explain my true motive and determine if any other members feel the same as Rye 1.

First, a little background on my blog. I’ve now spent close to $1,000 in establishing and advertising the blog site. I expect nothing in return. There’s no personal information, log-in or cost to access the site. Unless someone wants to comment, I have no idea of the identity of anyone who does access it.

If you access my blog and click on “About”, you can see my true motive in setting up the blog. I’ve offered it free of charge to fellow members at agnostic.com because that made perfect sense to me. Where else would be a better place to share my agnostic and liberal thoughts than to those with a similar frame of mind.

However, if many of you agree with Rye 1, I’ll cease any further reference to my blog. Otherwise, I’ll continue to promote it for any others who may not know about it.

Feel free to express your support, disdain or indifference. I won’t be offended regardless.

I don't care.

No issue with what you post. I quit the church going bull when I was 12 or 13 years old and became fully agnosic/atheist by 16 and turned away from the gop when Reagan took office.

He is just jealous.

Don't forget to enjoy the music here.

I'd forgotten about this one by Paul Simon! Thanks for posting.🥰

I generally ignore any one that has an agenda, after they have been around awhile, I will pay more attention. Hang around awhile, post on several different forums and in groups and don't just promote your blog. I think others have said it better than I have, but I have to say stick around and post.

Well I know very little about "blogs" and don't reaaly want to know about them nor use one BUT I do know about a thing called in Australian slang a BOG ( dropping a turd, strangling a darky or just plain taking a shit).
So, are blogs as relieving as are bogs?
Do they give you same/similar sense of relief and rek=lease as do the good old and often needed and welcome bog does?
And a Grand spent on a blog, Jeez Louise you must be made on money or the prime example of the adage of, A Foll and his money are soon parted, which is it?

have a group about your blog. if there is any interest it will sustain, if not...... just get your blog off the main feed.

6

Maybe you should do some post not about your blog.

I can't see what the problem would be. I have no issue with your blog and you promoting it.

For all our internal bickering here, in a way it's a pretty tight-knit community. Or at least there is a sense of community of sorts. And for a lot of us it is a kind of home territory where many people feel somewhat protective of the community identity.

A lot of folks have invested many hours of their lives contributing to the construction of that sense of community, and are generally welcoming of newcomers, and mostly tolerant of different ideas, as long as they don't get too close to proselytizing for some religion.

So a newcomer shows up to the party, and literally the first thing out of his mouth is.. "Hey guys, I'm having a party at MY house - let's go over there!"

So aside from maybe not being the most thoughtful manners, it resembles a tactic we have all had to guard against from scammers, which is dropping in and immediately trying to pull members offsite where they can be more privately raped (figuratively or literally).

People here are smart enough and tough enough not to be damaged by such form, be it malicious or innocent, but mostly it just reflects poorly on you.

My spidey sense says your intentions are the best, and you'll enjoy contributing to this community and it, in turn, will benefit from your presence. Who knows - maybe a few hundred conversations down the road genuine curiosity, based on a growing familiarity with your true character, will have members asking to see your blog to find out more. You know, like a real relationship... instead of just another transaction. And we may even invite you to our blogs.

In short, we might rather feel like potential friends than like advertising targets.

Best regards.

Well said!

I would consider promotion of any free material promoting agnostic or freethought isssues and discussion to be fine, a non- problem. I agree with most of the responses here. As long as you are not misrepresenting your true aims, you are not stealing or attacking anything.

needing attn. perhaps. carry on.

You do you.
It really doesn't matter what anyone else thinks about what you post.

If they don't like it, they're free to use the block function.
As are you.

I have no issue with you sharing your blog. Others can go check it out or not. 😉

I don't really care about your motivations being here. I only care about what you write while you are here.
