We need to understand that Ukraine was NEVER a willing part of Russia. It was conquered and annexed by Russia ib 1793, The current Russian attack is the third attempt to punish Ukraine in the past 100 years. In the 1920s the Soviet Union tried to force all farmers in Ukraine into collective farms. When they resisted, the Soviet Union took away almost all of the food produced in Ukraine and millions of Ukrainians starve to death.

During World War II, the Ukrainians remembered what Russia has done to them and a number of Ukrainians volunteered for service with Germany. Again, the Russians punished Ukraine. Now, Putin is attempting to punish Ukraine for declaring its independence as a country by destroying as much of the country as he can . He intends to either conquer Ukraine or destroy so much of it that it will will suffer the effects for many decades , if not centuries.

Yeah, Putin wants Ukraine back under his thumb, but more than that, he wants it's resources. It's all about the oil.

Hr also wants the fertile land. Ukraine is known as the "bread basket of Europe."

The sunflower oil.

Bottom line is...Putin is a PARANOID DICTATOR who happens to control the second largest NUCLEAR ARSENAL. He will NOT STOP until he either gets what he wants(which is ALL of Ukraine and TOTAL CONTROL of all the OIL and GAS flowing out of Russia) OR he will turn Ukraine into a WASTELAND...OR the world bands together and STOPS THIS POS ONCE AND FOR ALL.

Putin is not parnoid. He is a psychjopath.

@wordywalt I would still incorporate "paranoid" in his description...he fears Western encroachment. When Communism collapsed they lost their Bloc countries. Russian leaders see NATO on their borders as a threat. We all know that NATO has no interest in "invading Russia". NATO was merely a stone wall against Communist aggression. Putin is stuck in a Cold War mentality and can only see Russia's seat at the world table as a dominating force that controls its neighbors through intimidation...the mark of someone who is scared on the inside...he is also head of the largest theft ring on the planet. He doesn't want to lose his seat at the head of the table...or he is DEAD and he knows it. I would be paranoid if I were in his shoes...one false move and he is pushing up daisies...or freezing his nads off in the Gulag.

No, Putin is trying to protect ethnic Russians living in Ukraine and prevent NATO from deploying first strike weapons next to Russia's heartland. Putin is a ruthless mofo, but a completely rational actor. This all could have been avoided with diplomacy, but so far Washington would prefer to see Ukraine destroyed than negotiate in good faith.

Pure horse manure!!!!!

You are so wrong. What Russian publication do you subscribe to?

Total nonsense

Your comments cannot be taken seriously.

Really? Putting is just doing "what needed to be done"?
Hitler and the Sudenland ring any bells for ya?

Horseshit. Plain and simple.

The most I admit here is that Washington may have used diplomancy but it never happened and now many of us all over the world will be facing food shortages and super high gas and energy prices.

You all want to believe the twaddle flowing from Washington as it does everything in its power to prolong the war, go for it. More proof Americans are the most propagandized people on Earth. If Putin had wanted to conquer Ukraine he would have called up his reserves and invaded with vastly more troops. It's a limited war with limited objections, a war that Ukraine can't win. The sooner they sit down with the Russians and negotiate in good faith, the sooner this war will be over.

He wants to take back every country that they controlled.

Wow, just wow. Risk is a stupid board game, not a primer in war and international relations.

Earlier today, some whacko tried telling me that the US installed a puppet government, and Russia is stopping a genocide in the eastern portion of Ukraine.
Then he called me a fascist for saying I didn't believe him.

This is why we can't have nice things.

Your belief or not is irrelevant to the facts, the US most definitely was involved in the 2014 overthrow of Ukraine's democratically elected leader. And while there was no genocide, about 14,000 civilians were killed by neo-Nazi attacks in the Donbas since 2014. Ukraine did agree to halt the attacks in the Minsk agreement of 2014, but never did so. That so many Americans believe the Cold War propaganda flowing from Washington is why we can't have nice things.

@Druvius More lies and distortions.

@wordywalt Facts are facts no matter how much you want to believe the twaddle flowing from Washington as it throws away Ukrainian lives in furtherance of America's Cold War nonsense.

While most Putin-Americans come from half of the Evangelical base, a few Russophiles hail from the extreme left, and they are reliably indifferent to the truth.

@Druvius It is Putin's aggresiveness and treachery that is forcing Europe and the USA tostrengthen its defesnses.
