Again this shows how the lack of knowledge about basic biology influenced how men decided to control women. Since men (at the time of writing the fairy tale) had no real idea of how women conceived it was felt that if a woman had slept with a man there was no way of knowing if the child she had was yours or her previous husband. So off with her head and make sure you marry a virgin so you know the children are yours.

I think it was a Dave Allen skit about belief and knowledge as with all his skits set in a catholic church with the priest talking about the difference and pointing to a family in the front row mum dad 1001 offspring and saying Dad you believe all of those children are yours but Mum knows they are hers.

Only a female knows 100% (prior to DNA testing) that the offspring is hers the male just has faith or believes it is his. (yes I know he has your nose but then it could be the nose of your great grandfather that your brother also has the genes for etc)

Today a woman goes to a bar and gets stone and cheats on her husband. And collects the kids and house in a divorce.
