Why do people believe in ghosts? Why do ghost hunting programs on t.v get filmed in the dark? What research exists that says if ghosts were real they won't come out with the lights on? Why would a ghost want to haunt the place where they died? Wouldn't you use your incorporealness (not sure that's a word?) to explore the world and meet other ghosts?

Also, why do ghost hunters go seeking 16th century German ghosts, and talk to them in English? LOL this stuff is for the gullible.

Those shows irritate the crap out of me.

Very low tolerance for supernatural explanations for ordinary events.

"There's a breeze here!

It must be a wandering spirit! What other explanation could there be?"

Um....deteriorated window caulking?

And why do 'ghosts' wear clothes?

I don't usually. But for protection (of others and myself) when I'm on the bike. 🙂

@atheist only because emoticons are made up by people....

...errr, let me rethink that one. 😉

Fakest TV ever, just like the "searching for bigfoot" series!

Whew!!! A lot of questions... its all about the money.

It's amazing what you can make up for $100,000 lol

Ghosts are real they made real cartoons about Casper and he talked to people all the time!

I can't remember where I saw it. But when you think about it, ghosts would have to be perpetual motion machines.
If they aren't alive in the classic sense -- don't eat, etc. -- where do they get the energy to do anything? They wouldn't be able to make a sound or even be seen without getting energy from somewhere.
If they're solar powered, I agree with you. Why do they tend to hang out in the dark?

It's easy to explain if they only exist in our imaginations.

Obviously, they sun all day and can't bee seen as its too bright. They do this to charge like radioactive glow paint so they can glow all night. Don't mess with a former fundamentalist. We've got answers for everything!!!

They believe in ghost for the same reason people believe in an afterlife. So they don’t have to face the fact that our time here is limited. And don’t even get me started on ghost shows. But the reason they do them at night is for atmosphere. It sets the tone but also, a business typically closes at nightfall. So these businesses can get free advertisement at night and on tv. And some people believe that ghosts are tied to a certain place. Typically to the place that they died.

Also why the heck are these people using different religious methods to cleanse houses? One was using native american shamanism and the others christianity. Can't both be right. I've seen some that use both in the same program even. Wtf.

It is like the ultimate in bad charlatanism.

Hahaha!!! i love the crapness of it.. can't watch it though it's too shite - 40 programs - 4 series later there will be another set of people (the 40th), who also won't find a ghost like the 39 previous groups of people. It's like watching a home video of drunk people lost camping !

General thought : I've seen no reason yet why any form of consciousness extends beyond the death of the mind that creates it.
. Why do so many believe in such nonsense ? They can't think outside the paradigms they've been trained to stay within.

I have a friend who swears she sees ghosts. I've been with her when she has seen something but I don't see it. I'm not sure what ghosts really are. Is it to be the energy of the body that escapes after burial or cremation? If it is wearing clothes of that time period, is the clothing now energy matter. The clothing part to me is the hardest to figure out. And I guess wherever they are they don't get it dirty or wet.

@atheist I do like mine dressed nicely

Ghosts are just human imagination.

I guess we just aren't privy to the rules that ghosts have to follow. Maybe dying didn't affect their fear of ghosts.

Hate to say this but science has never confirmed any supernatural phemonena and this includes ghosts - so ghosts just like god do not exist.

Scooby-Doo debunked this 40+ years ago.......

... because most people are gullible.

To the best of my knowledge there is no valid research that says anything about ghosts, and the reason for that is there has never been any paranormal phenomena demonstrated to be real to any credible investigators.

Seances were conducted in the dark so that the people couldn't see the tricks being done. I guess the feeling has remained.

I sometimes watch those silly shows to figure out how they are staging the "scares." It's so lame, I would think that even the believers would get bored with the shows.

Ghost hunting and the Paranormal is different and intresting

Media has capitalized on it and BOBDAMN it. Those shows are cheesy! At the same time, (type asloudly as you wish at me,) I have had experiences that weren't branches in the wind or rattling doors during a hurricane.

I dunno about the dead but living people have ghosts. If I work in a house with the occupants out, it is spooky. People give off a vibe that is hard to explain. All I know is I put the radio on to stop it being eerie.

One of the most "objective" ghost shows out there I've seen has been "Ghost Hunters". They actually look to debunk all the cases they take. They hardly ever find anything significant and when they do find something, it's usually just a sound or something that can't be explained fully. They never find any solid evidence of "ghosts". At least on the shows I've seen.
