I used to have to walk past all of my classmate each school day and go stand in the hall while the PA system played God Save the Queen and O'Canada, then walk back to my desk after it was over. Come recess I could usually expect to get into a fist fight, all because my parents were JW's but it did teach me to be self confident and stand up for myself. Little wonder that I came to realize that it was all about government indoctrination of children, the Americans do the same thing.

No we do not, we have problems but this was not one of them ,i clearly recalled it being a choice that the teachers said we had.. because we are free we have a choice they said...poor Canada...

But i wish I could be More arrogant lol because I know my nation has fucking fallen ,too many traitors and brainwashed masses are overwhelming . But i still think we have a chance.. And so does Canada

Well I clearly had a choice and I exercised it every school day in Canada so no need for a pity party. My 3 children are dual citizens Canadian and American, they also went to school for most of their education in the USA, so I can compare the levels of indoctrination better than most. Forced patriotism is not patriotism, it's just jingoism.

It is rather ironic that growing up in a religious cult taught me independent thinking, it wasn't the plan but it worked out that way for me but not all of my siblings. My older brother fell on hard times and crawled back to the JW cult and eventually became an elder in their church.

Is he allowed to talk to you? I know how bad the JW cult can be about talking to fmily who have left o been "disfellowshipped" or whatever they call it.

@BufftonBeotch I never took the step of being baptized, I opted out on my 13th birthday when in JW terms I 'became a man' and could make my own decisions, that meant that I wasn't 'disfellowshipped' just 'worldly' so we still got along. He died 8 years ago from a brain embolism so we don't chat anymore, probably best because he would always bring the conversation around to religion and he always got the worst of it. 😉
Interestingly, some of his kids who were baptized have fallen out of the faith but the JW cult is creative about retaining membership numbers so even though they live lives that are very worldly and should be disfellowshipped, they are instead listed as 'inactive' or something to that effect.

A group prayer or pledge is not really voluntary when you do it to children. Very few will have the confidence to stand against peer pressure.

Even as adults if you do not stand for the Special Magic song someone is likely to physically threaten you.

"Respect your freedom or I'll kill you!"

Religion and government have surprisingly similar goals.

Didn't Moses use religion to rule his people?

As a kid Singing about the queen every day. I though she was married to God. And set off fireworks on her birthday.

I remember the pledge when I was in school but I don't think we said it all the time. When would you say this? At the beginning of a school day or in every frigging classroom. Where would everyone gather to say the pledge at the beginning of a school day? My first class every day was PE.

I can say my experience was we had homeroom before we started our classes. That's where they took attendance and we said the pledge of allegiance to the flag every day.

They added god to the Pledge of Allegiance in 1954 under republicans now known as Christofascists!!!

We are a secular nation never a Christian fascists nation!!!

Seems many “free” countries do this pledge thing….🤨

I taught in Vermont for a year a couple of years ago. There were no flags and no pledge and I did not even notice until a student complained to me about it.

One of the political observations I see in the news is about "grooming" and that is precisely what religion and politics does to children.

Sure nuff
