No we do not, we have problems but this was not one of them ,i clearly recalled it being a choice that the teachers said we had.. because we are free we have a choice they said...poor Canada...

It is rather ironic that growing up in a religious cult taught me independent thinking, it wasn't the plan but it worked out that way for me but not all of my siblings. My older brother fell on hard times and crawled back to the JW cult and eventually became an elder in their church.

A group prayer or pledge is not really voluntary when you do it to children. Very few will have the confidence to stand against peer pressure.

Even as adults if you do not stand for the Special Magic song someone is likely to physically threaten you.

Religion and government have surprisingly similar goals.

As a kid Singing about the queen every day. I though she was married to God. And set off fireworks on her birthday.

I remember the pledge when I was in school but I don't think we said it all the time. When would you say this? At the beginning of a school day or in every frigging classroom. Where would everyone gather to say the pledge at the beginning of a school day? My first class every day was PE.

They added god to the Pledge of Allegiance in 1954 under republicans now known as Christofascists!!!

I taught in Vermont for a year a couple of years ago. There were no flags and no pledge and I did not even notice until a student complained to me about it.

One of the political observations I see in the news is about "grooming" and that is precisely what religion and politics does to children.
