Bedbugs are found in beds. So, just who came up with the term "cockroach"?
Mr. Cock... He's well known. Mr. Roach helped out too.
Tried googling - no explanation how the name came about.
from Wikipedia.....Cockroach Name Origin
The name "cockroach" comes from the Spanish word for cockroach, cucaracha, transformed by 1620s English folk etymology into "cock" and "roach". The scientific name derives from the Latin blatta, "an insect that shuns the light", which in classical Latin was applied not only to cockroaches, but also to mantids.
In Bermuda we always referred to them as Palmetto Bugs, sounds better to the tourists because they are huge, green or brown and fly.
