Likewise in the realm of thought and belief. In fact, most people don't know how to reason, think critically, do not think for themselves, examine their ideas and assumptions. So, upside down? yeah. Incomprehensible? far from it.

Humans have been believing in a Supreme Being for thousands of years, so (to me) it's not bizarre that they still believe.

It's difficult if not impossible to get one person to change an established (in their mind) truth, much less get thousands/millions to do that.

I don't think it's so strange, really. From what I can tell, early humans had questions about life and death and pain and the origin of the world, but they lacked the tools to provide an explanation for any of it. So they developed mythology, and from mythology came more formal religion. And religion is a powerful control system, so once it had embedded into the human mind, it became difficult to shake. And people still have questions, and fear death, and want to believe their misery and suffering have meaning, etc. So a rational approach remains in the minority, I suspect, just because religion satisfies a psychological or emotional need in people, even if it's really a non-answer at its core.

Think about how our society promotes Reality and Fantasy on television,video games and movies. There are more Fantasy programs, movies and games than ever before. More DC Comic characters are being projected on the silver screen with sequels and remakes of Batman, Wonder Woman, and Spiderman. TV has Orville, Gotham, etc. You get the picture. Is it any wonder that we have REAL NEWS and FAKE NEWS?

Is it really so surprising? We have 1/3 of the country that believes everything that comes out of Trumps mouth is truth. Frankly, I find it surprisingly that people don’t believe that Batman is real. Willful self delusion is is a very useful defense mechanism when reality sucks.

Yes.. The bulk of humanity isn’t as smart as they think they are ...which is further evidence for human evolution.. Welcome to the cutting edge, a lonely yet gratifying place ~

You'd think the ones in reality would be the majority. Millennials are coming out as secular more now than ever. I'm a Millennial. So are the next generation after Millennials.

What percentage of the earth's population would you say is 'sane'? What percentage of the people you meet in your life time are 'stable'? We are living on a infinitesimally small piece of rock when compared to the universe. On this speck of a planet are diseases and natural disasters that will easily shorten our existence. On top of that we are self-aware. That could drive anyone crazy if we didn't make our lives worthwhile to ourselves AND others. That's all we have. Not everyone learns that, even in a lifetime.

I call myself non delusional

It's pretty upside down and it feels even worse being in such a red state.

What is even odder is that since we believe in evidence and reality we are not called believers and the other non-believer or imaginers.

fear of death is common...taking a fear and rationalizing it...the stories we tell ourselves to deal with our unknowns is pretty common...I don't know why it is surprising that a majority of people don't like to think that they just end...in fact, no one can imagine what 'just end' is....we can verbalize it...we can try to conceptualize it...but our own end is truly unknowable...and we, as a species, are very afraid of the unknown.
