Hello everyone. I am currently having some health issues. I hope it's nothing serious but I have to wait for the blood test result
Many religious people I know (including my parents) say that this is my punishment for not being religious and living a "life of sin". My mother also tells me I should pray and ask god for forgiveness if I want to be healthy. All this makes me feel even worse ??

So, Christians don't get sick? Only sinners? Hmmm...I think I would have to ask her that question.

So sorry. Thinking of you. I'm a blood cancer survivor 5 yrs

Thank you ? You must be so strong!

@LimitedLight
Yes you are right. And there are many religious people that are sick in this world.

not religious in the least.

Trust your Doctors 1st. and always ! Our collective support with you all the way !

Sorry but doctors are wrong so much of the time as they're not trained in many things expect giving out meds. I could on and on about misdiagnosis doctors have done to me! I got hurt by trainer at a gym my doctor told me I had nerve damage in my foot and "nothing could be done". I suffered for years from it and went and got special inserts for my shoes and some other things and I'm much better. It turns out I did not have nerve damage at all. If yo have any 2nd thoughts at all get another doctor to see you! Please do this, I'm talking from decades of experience. Many doctors are poor at diagnosing people with health issues.

@valentine4real
If you have your doubts about one, try another, but trust them. There is no one else to trust ?

@BigBoMclain
I trust you, just wear a rubber glove when you stick your finger up my arse, please ?

Your mama loves you I'm sure, but she certainly isn't being very supportive. Not that I want to disparage your mama. Hang in there, and tell mama "we all sin and fall short of the glory that is god." I'd look up that chapter and verse but I'm afraid my computer might get struck by lightening. (Romans 3:23, I don't believe that stuff) Tell mama you love her and you could use her support right now, and if she must beat you with the buybull then you'll have to have some space. Hope you feel better soon.

You're pretty smart for an old hippie chick.
😉

@bigpawbullets thank you! I share wisdom of a life full of experiences of making some really bad choices.

I hope you feel better. I knew I was an atheist when I realized I wouldn't pray to god if I got cancer. I wouldn't want to worship a god who lets starving children die but this god is going to help me.

You are right. To many bad things happen in this world, why would god help me personally?

1

Take care and I wish you well. It is hard to turn off the voices of those around you especially family. Wonder what they would say the reason would be if one of them got sick..... Oh wait, I know, they would say god is just testing their religious strength like he did to Job

Thank you ❤
Yes of course, they would always find an excuse.

This is just a form of attempted mind control. The world is full of religious people who are sick. Those who accuse you know this. They themselves suffer from a sickness of the soul or they wouldn't treat you like this.

I think that this is sad but true.

Everybody, non believers, believers, can have a medical problem. From the Pope to Stephen Hawking, we are born, we live, some have medical issues, others get through life in relative good health. What you believe has no bearing on how your life proceeds health wise. Praying won't do a damn thing for your health, otherwise there would be no need for hospitals, modern medicine and medication. Take care of yourself, let your doctor help you through your issue, and maintain a positive attitude. Those will help you get back on your feet, not getting on your knees.

Well Alexa,no its not your punishment for not being religious. I don't believe in god. God hasn't been proven to me. When I had my heart attack 18 yrs ago I decided to hedge my bet and said this prayer" oh lord, don't let my kids find my porn" then,I lived.

That's what the concept of religion and God is all about. It provides answers for all the uncertainties and things which are yet to be discovered. Thankfully, we now have a branch of science that deals with this is. Lygometry - go, read about it! It really is interesting.

The concept of religion or god is just not a concept alone it’s a regulations and a restrictions created by humans none other only humans to make it clear . There is neither a proof for god nor for a religion which only make u to think like dumb

1

That is horrific. What an absolutely shitty thing to say and to do to your child. So religious people never get sick, never get cancer? As a nurse I can tell you first hand that this isn't true. How do they explain that? Are the religious people who die from liver failure or a brain tumor similarly "not good enough" in god's eyes? If so, why? Even if what they were saying was true - they want you to worship some asshole who will punish you for not believing while simultaneously refusing to provide a single shred of evidence for that existence?? If that god exists he can fuck right off.

If religion is so good at keeping you healthy, why do religious people see a doctor at all? The moment one of them steps foot in a hospital is the moment they admit their god has zilch to do with overcoming sickness/disease.

I'm sorry to hear about your issues, and I do hope that everything turns out for the best with your health. I'm also sorry that there are people in your life who would treat you in such a manner at such a vulnerable moment. You deserve better.

They are delusional. Don't let their negativity (even if unintentional) hinder your positivity. Try not to stress more than you have to. Be strong and brush that bullshit off...

1

Get well soon. Funny how the devout get sick all the time and my heathen ass is tip top shape.

1

You should not let people get you down. Especially when you are dealing with health issues. Surround you self with positive people. Good luck.

2

Just tell them that your health problems are due to their gods plan.

1

That hair color looks like a symptom, j/k it looks great.

Good luck with the parents, there's no easy way to deal with that.

1

sounds like they are just being unkind, and using your current situation to try to guilt you into religion. I am very sorry to hear this is happening to you.
You can always remind them that many an evil, racist person has great health, and many an innocent child or kind heart has suffered unbelievably - and that crosses all faiths (or absence of faith).

I sincerely hope your health picks up soon, and that whatever comes along can be handled so you can continue to live happily.

1

I'm sorry for your situation. Just remember though -and feel free to remind people if you care to- that pious people get sick too. Meanwhile, surround yourself with people who will have empathy and compassion for you without having to pass a religious test.
I hope your bloodwork comes back without any major issues.

1

Positive mental attitude is important when facing any health challenge, as for the religious assholes at least you know who has your back and who doesn't because they aren't helping. Be Well and ignore the haters with their hateful imaginary friend.

Funny how they all seem to forget the "judge not lest you be judged" part of the Bible. Conveniently.

I had a friend, religious (but not obnoxiously), nicest person in the world. She died of an aggressive form of colon cancer at 53. I'm sorry, but all their pronouncements are bullshit. "Good Christians" die every day, at all ages, and nothing can stop that. There's no 200 year old religious people out there; we all die around the same average age.

What really bothers me is the implied smugness of the people telling you this, an "I guess this will show THEM!" attitude. They are taking a small bit of pleasure out of this.

I know you can't chose your relatives, and I'm sorry you have to go through this nonsense. But really the best thing to do is stay away from these people.

2

I am so sorry that you have to deal with a support system that is not supportive. Hope you have others to lean on in this difficult time in your life. Victim blaming? Medical issues are medical issues Factual and not having to do with ethics. Good luck. lol I don't beleive in luck either.

3

I'm terribly sorry you have to deal with crap from relatives on top of having health issues. I hope you have friends who are there for you, and actually help you feel better. Take care of yourself.

3

sorry they add being a bummer to an already difficult situation. Just imagine them dancing the Bite the Lawango Tango

3

This infuriates me. I think that if someone were to have said that to me about my health condition I would've literally bit their head off. Literally. Kind of like Ozzy Osbourne biting the head off of a bat.
