Hello everyone. I am currently having some health issues. I hope it's nothing serious but I have to wait for the blood test result
Many religious people I know (including my parents) say that this is my punishment for not being religious and living a "life of sin". My mother also tells me I should pray and ask god for forgiveness if I want to be healthy. All this makes me feel even worse ??

I am so sorry that you have to deal with a support system that is not supportive. Hope you have others to lean on in this difficult time in your life. Victim blaming? Medical issues are medical issues Factual and not having to do with ethics. Good luck. lol I don't beleive in luck either.

Funny how they all seem to forget the "judge not lest you be judged" part of the Bible. Conveniently.

I had a friend, religious (but not obnoxiously), nicest person in the world. She died of an aggressive form of colon cancer at 53. I'm sorry, but all their pronouncements are bullshit. "Good Christians" die every day, at all ages, and nothing can stop that. There's no 200 year old religious people out there; we all die around the same average age.

What really bothers me is the implied smugness of the people telling you this, an "I guess this will show THEM!" attitude. They are taking a small bit of pleasure out of this.

I know you can't chose your relatives, and I'm sorry you have to go through this nonsense. But really the best thing to do is stay away from these people.

Positive mental attitude is important when facing any health challenge, as for the religious assholes at least you know who has your back and who doesn't because they aren't helping. Be Well and ignore the haters with their hateful imaginary friend.

I'm sorry for your situation. Just remember though -and feel free to remind people if you care to- that pious people get sick too. Meanwhile, surround yourself with people who will have empathy and compassion for you without having to pass a religious test.
I hope your bloodwork comes back without any major issues.

sounds like they are just being unkind, and using your current situation to try to guilt you into religion. I am very sorry to hear this is happening to you.
You can always remind them that many an evil, racist person has great health, and many an innocent child or kind heart has suffered unbelievably - and that crosses all faiths (or absence of faith).

I sincerely hope your health picks up soon, and that whatever comes along can be handled so you can continue to live happily.

That hair color looks like a symptom, j/k it looks great.

Good luck with the parents, there's no easy way to deal with that.

Just tell them that your health problems are due to their gods plan.

Take care and I wish you well. It is hard to turn off the voices of those around you especially family. Wonder what they would say the reason would be if one of them got sick..... Oh wait, I know, they would say god is just testing their religious strength like he did to Job

Thank you ❤
Yes of course, they would always find an excuse.

You should not let people get you down. Especially when you are dealing with health issues. Surround you self with positive people. Good luck.

Get well soon. Funny how the devout get sick all the time and my heathen ass is tip top shape.

I hope you feel better. I knew I was an atheist when I realized I wouldn't pray to god if I got cancer. I wouldn't want to worship a god who lets starving children die but this god is going to help me.

You are right. To many bad things happen in this world, why would god help me personally?

They are delusional. Don't let their negativity (even if unintentional) hinder your positivity. Try not to stress more than you have to. Be strong and brush that bullshit off...

That is horrific. What an absolutely shitty thing to say and to do to your child. So religious people never get sick, never get cancer? As a nurse I can tell you first hand that this isn't true. How do they explain that? Are the religious people who die from liver failure or a brain tumor similarly "not good enough" in god's eyes? If so, why? Even if what they were saying was true - they want you to worship some asshole who will punish you for not believing while simultaneously refusing to provide a single shred of evidence for that existence?? If that god exists he can fuck right off.

If religion is so good at keeping you healthy, why do religious people see a doctor at all? The moment one of them steps foot in a hospital is the moment they admit their god has zilch to do with overcoming sickness/disease.

I'm sorry to hear about your issues, and I do hope that everything turns out for the best with your health. I'm also sorry that there are people in your life who would treat you in such a manner at such a vulnerable moment. You deserve better.

So sorry. Thinking of you. I'm a blood cancer survivor 5 yrs

Thank you ? You must be so strong!
