Just putting this out there...I will NOT be watching the apparent upcoming royal wedding! (Edited to correct my momentary lapse in grammar)

Does that mean you’re watching it?

Nope...I had a rare moment of grammatical wobbling. Its the horror of the idea πŸ˜‰

@Amisja It's OK. We all knew you weren't not watching, nohow, noways!"

Just in case.

I won't watch it because as far as I'm concerned all royals should piss off back to medieval times where they belong. However, I do kind of like Meghan and I hope she has a lovely day, and I'll be watching British right-wingers to see if their heads explode in sheer anger when a mixed-race feminist becomes a member of the royal family.

Jnei Level 8 May 15, 2018

Lefties are far more racist than the right.

@KenG I don't agree with that. I've met equal numbers of racists on both sides - I have some right-wing friends who I respect greatly for their absolute and vehement opposition to racism despite the fact that I disagree with them on most other topics, and I have left-wing acquaintances (note: not "friends", because I cannot be friends with a racist) who I agree with on most subjects but loathe for their racism... in roughly equal numbers.

@KenG I disagree. All the racists I've ever met have all been right-wingers.

@Sundown Sorry you got conned. 45 is vile. Has been for as long as I've been watching him over the last 40 years.

@KenG Erm where did that even come from? The basic tennet of the left wing political base is equality for all.

@Amisja Part of The Rights philosophy is personal responsibility. Basically no excuses for bad behaviour. The Left make excuses for minorities being victims, and excuse any bad behaviour by anyone in these groups. It’s utterly patronising, and treating minorities differently to others is, by definition racist. It’s treating people differently according to their race. The reason The Right get called racist is because we’re so used to giving minorities preferential treatment. Look at statistics on race and crime for example and draw your own conclusion.

Absolutely xx

@KenG Statistics from where exactly? I know the stats from my country. Racism is not about saying certain races do not commit crimes. That is not accurate. The left (in UK at least) believe broadly in communal ownership (communal rather than state) of essential services and equality for all. All communities (lets use that word because race is a misnomer) commit crime and the statistics are clear that certain communities lead certain crimes. Again that is not what we are talking about. Disvaluing contributions, disallowing certain activities (hmm voting for example), holding negative bias about a particular group is racism. The left is clearly utterly opposed to this.

@Amisja Do you believe in equality of opportunity or equality of outcome?

@KenG I believe in a true equality of opportunity.

I'd rather shave my privates with a hacksaw blade than even acknowledge any 'royals'.

Metal or wood blade?

6

I won't be watching it either. Better things to do with my time.

6

I’ll be joining you.

6

I would be but unfortunately my dog needs a bath.

5

Oh hell no! I would rather have a root canal.

5

On my interest scale. It ranks below watching pain dry. ?

Did you mean to type that freudian "pain"?

@Petter oops paint. Thank you for the correction.

@Mikeb56 pain also applies, though. Perhaps "more painful than watching paint dry?"

@Petter indeed so

There is no such thing as royalty - there are merely dictators and descendants of dictators, and I don't find either of those desperately thrilling. Anyone who is excited about this "royal" wedding is either severely retarded or is a friend or relative of the people involved.

5

Me neither. I cannot bear this force feeding of these pampered parasites by our media. It's time for a republic.

5

I won't be either. 2 people I don't know getting married doesn't interest me. Celebrities don't interest me. Royalty doesn't interest me. My choice would be to abolish the whole monarchy. Just abolish no beheading... though I imagine im going to be that fed up of it I may consider beheading a necessary evil.

I wouldn't abolish monarchy. It's a constitutional defence against people like Trump, etc. Take a look at the Norwegian system of monarchy. However, I utterly agree with you on Celebrity worship - it sells magazines to dull people and nothing more. This wedding is simply a state sponsored version of "Hello" magazine!

5

Didn't we (Americans) fight two wars not to have to care about the British monarchy?

I am English

... and now pander to it more than many British! You Yanks are strange, but it makes you interesting! I wonder if a survey of East Coast versus West coast opinion on British monarchy would reveal. I personally think the East Coast is more prone to pandering to the concept.

5

Me either, Sister!

The term "blue blood" comes from the ruling class that prided themselves on their fair skin, "blue blood" visually coursing thru their veins, safe from the browning by the sun. So for Megan Markle to infuse these types with African DNA is a testament as to how far we have come. As Africa is mother to us all, it is so appropriate that we outbreed to replenish the human stock. Too much Caucasoid DNA might be considered as inbreeding resulting in.....stuff. The fact that this is occurring is monumental when the Queen doesn't have a stroke in response. Yay Harry. "Nobody's gonna turn us 'round", "We're on the move". I do hope she is able to adjust to the rigorous stiffness that tradition requires. Can't wait to see the offspring.

I do believe the Queen is quite a rebel at heart - but her "job" requires official "stiffness". I'm technically "blue blood" in my immediate Norwegian parentage - but I'm a Kenyan by nurture.

5

As a republican (not the American kind) Australian trapped in the UK, I have no skin in that game.

Why do so many Aussies take an extended visit to UK? However, unlike other "visitors" they almost always go back to Oz.

@Petter Nah, I'm a bona fide immigrant. Eldest daughter has a large melanocytic nevis on her face, so moving back to the skin cancer capital of the world may not be the best move.

@MrBeelzeebubbles That's a problem, indeed. So Spain is also out!

5

Is there a royal wedding ?

Only a lesser bunch - go back to sleep.

5

So, you'll be watching it, then ?

(sorry - couldn't help myself )

4

I hold "royalty", the privileged, the elitist, celebrities with much disdain.

Off with their heads!

@JayTea Being non-violent and a pacifist, I don't know if I would go that far. Just make them no different than the rest of us.

@jlynn37 it was a tongue-in-cheek comment but historically the guillotine has been used quite effectivly in purging societal parasites.

@JayTea I understand. However it seems that purging one group of societal parasites is always replaced with just another group of societal parasites.

3

Double negative

For extra goodness

@Amisja extra badness is more fun!

3

SHIT! How will we have a discussion afterwards??

3

Nor will I be. Too much gushing and presenters babbling away to fill time, etc. I'm not against monarchy, it's less open to the out and out corruption of other forms of government, but I don't worship them. They are figureheads, used to carry out mundane tasks of state, thus leaving elected officials more time to concentrate on day to day matters. (or pick their nose!)

3

I'm going to watch it. I'm not getting up at 4am for it, but I will watch.
With no shame whatsoever.

3

Nope, me neither.

We all knew what you meant. It gave us a laugh, which is more than Saturday will do!

I confess that I watch The Oscars to see the gowns. I think I love gowns because of Cinderella when I was a child. So I will probably watch the upcoming royal wedding.

vita Level 7 May 16, 2018

May I interest you in a subscription to Vogue - or Hello?

@Petter, no thank you. I don't even know what Hello is.

I also confess that I read trashy celebrity magazines ... when I get pedicures. And sometimes in waiting rooms. I don't pay money for that shit.

@vita Hello is a trashy, celebrity magazine that pays celebrities abominably large sums of cash for an "exclusive" on their wedding, divorce, affair, etc. interspersed with other "celebrity" gossip.

It is, arguably, the very trashiest of celebrity magazines!
