Years ago, when I was deconverting, I decided to spitball what I thought would have been a better set of 10 Commandments for Moses to deliver. I recently came across them again I thought I'd share to see what y'all thought.
ghost_warlock's Hastily Constructed 10 Commandments
Boil water to make it pure before drinking.
Do not be ashamed of your natural body; you are beautiful in my eyes.
Do not feel compelled to construct temples in my name, your body is my temple. Enjoy the body I have given you but respect its well being.
Do not suffer one another to go hungry.
Do not persecute the artist for their craft nor those that strive to better understand the world.
Your rights ebb as they infringe on another and end when they begin to do harm.
Love and respect one another regardless of gender, race, or creed.
Do not enter into sexual congress without consent.
Do not kill one another or seek vengeance, for life is the most precious gift bestowed upon you.
The Lord thy God sees much, but does not see all. I have done my best to guide you and show my love, but if there ever comes a time when you find you have no need of me, like a baby bird leaving the nest, tuck me away in your volumes of history and I hope you remember me fondly.
Something I would personally prefer is taking out the "voice of god." I think these guidelines could be strengthened without the patriarchal perspective and replace it with a human to human vibe. Just my thoughts.
I didn't realize that it still dripped heavily with patriarchy. I made it about as gender-neutral as I could while still trying to make it sound like something that could possibly have been presented on archaic Judaism. Not sure it's possible to completely remove the patriarchal, commanding elements and retain any verisimilitude for that theology
How about 'just be a good person'. Unhinged, axe murdering, fratricidal missionaries could not tell you they don't understand that!
Dunno, they seem to fuck up the whole "thou shalt not kill" all the time so I thought being more specific would be helpful
@ghost_warlock Yes, you are right about that, which I guess is why we are on here. I am having trouble thinking of any philosophy or religion that in the end, in their quest for power, supremacy or whatever does not opress masses to point of extinction if they do not comply.
