I find it fascinating that conservatives are appalled, offended and totally freaking out over the canceling of Roseanne, but I haven't heard a word from any of them about the 1500 young children the government has misplaced. I'm sick to death at the thought of babies and toddlers being removed from their parents' care like they're contraband. We used to be a country with a heart.

I'm not blaming Trump totally for this quantum shift. Believe me, I'm no fan of his but this panophobia we're experiencing on the part of conservatives had to have been there before. But it's as if Trump opened Pandora's box and let all the evils out. He was the catalyst for this explosion of overt hate and intolerance. He made it acceptable to be a racist, a homophobe, a misogyist. The question is how do we get them back in the box? There's a huge contingency of people in this country who hate everyone who isn't white and Christian.

On the other hand, we've always been a violent race that rises by suppressing anything that gets in our way.

I have no answers. Just a whole bunch of questions, the main one being WTF???

Anyone have any opinions on how we get out of this mess?

By the way, for those of you who never saw the series "The Newsroom", the first episode contained a scene which has been haunting me every since. Jeff Daniels plays an anchor at a news station participating in a Q&A panel session with an audience of college students. Please take a few moments to watch it. It's a brilliant piece of writing and acting.

It is just like their response to abortion. They oppose it to save the child but once the child is born they neglect it . No health ins, food, education, housing or cars.

And no birth control, or sex education to prevent conception

@TheoryNumber3 Sorry I forgot these but there is so much negative about them it is hard to remember it all.

Roseanne brought this on herself and I don't think Trump can help her. Now she blames ambien for her outburst. Great! If they take that seriously it enforces the war on opioids. Soon nobody will have sleep and pain pill meds and that includes Roseanne. Great job, great role model.

Meanwhile in Missouri, everyone thought that Trump would come to the defense of Greitens but that could never happen. Since Greitens delimma is a sexual scandal the entire thing would draw too much attention to Trump. Powers that be want our attention drawn away from Donnie being charged with the same things. It's time everyone understood that sexual and racist remarks and actions have zero tolerance in America. Monkey and Muslim remarks do not go together. Some do not even see that the Roseanne remark is yet another stab at nastiness during 8 years of American history. Enough is enough. Trump is next.

God I hope so

how do we get out of this mess? Vote, cry with us, patience, This too shall pass is originally a Persian adage reflecting on the temporary nature, or ephemerality, of the human condition.

Yes it always turns itself around eventually, but I'm not sure I'll see it in my lifetime. They've done irreparable damage to this country, this planet, and the psyche of the nation

@TheoryNumber3 Agreed. I'm having trouble facing this new reality as well.. Trumps approval rating is 42%. at this time. Be cool ....try to keep your head on straight, vote the "Blue Wave" (even if you are not a democrat) and hope for the best

@MrTallman Oh yea... I'm on it! Go Blue! 42%. Hard to believe almost half the population supports this imbecile.

My favorite fantasy for cleaning up this mess is the plague scenario in Stephen King's The Stand.

Good...but of course there was NEVER a time when white male Americans weren't oppressing any minority they could..Native American Indians, women, blacks, etc.

That's odd, I'm a conservative atheist and take no issue in Roseanne getting cancelled. On the flip side, I see an awful lot of hatred and intolerance coming from the left, and a most unforgiving attitude as well, sort of reminds me of the same intolerance that the religious screwballs have. There is no hard evidence Trump made it acceptable to be a racist, as racism has existed long before he was even born, and at least nowadays there are laws protecting people from all walks of life. Nowadays, I do not see those on the right protesting in the streets alot, but I do see some groups associated with the progressive left, one being ANTIFA who are known to commit violent acts and damage property. Truth be said, both political sides have their fair share of problems, and both are corrupt beyond belief. I just sit back at times and wonder to myself when everything is just going to degenerate to a point of no return?

"There is no hard evidence Trump made it acceptable to be a racist"
Then you haven't been paying attention. Trump's Tweets and speeches have pandered to bigots at every step. The fact that they now have a Bigot In Chief, has emboldened bigots to act upon their hate. It's certainly not a one sided situation. Trump was put into office, in part, because the bigots were so incensed that a black man made it into the White House. It's reactionary. And Trump played on those fears and hatred, to get elected. And time and time again, he had pandered to those supporters ever since. Now he's in office, so they feel they can act upon their bigotry.

agree, nice reminder. It's important to see the whole picture: extremism on all sides.

@novoxguy I pay keen attention rather, and most of those tweets and comments were taken out of context. Obama sure was a racebaiter, and didn't do much for this country. Typical leftie, overly sensitive to any comment. You're going to need much harder proof that he is a bigot than that.

@novoxguy Trump got elected into office because the liberal left was to put it bluntly, stupid and arrogant. They were so sure Hillary would win, but her deplorables comment did her in, and even turned off many democratic voters. So-called bigots alone were not enough to elect Trump, and the liberals only helped Trump's cause. I know I know, that's not easy for the progressive left to accept that truth...that they lost due to their own ignorance, but it's still reality all the same.

@SpikeTalon and now we change the subject to why Hillary didn't get the Electoral College. (But won the popular vote by over 3 million.)

@novoxguy Who cares about the popular vote? Most people care about whether a candidate could fulfill his/her duties or not, and the majority felt Clinton was not up to the task. Just about everything with the left is a popularity contest. I'm still waiting for all of those folks who said they were going to move out of the country if Trump got elected president, and they are still here.

@novoxguy Thank our founding fathers for the electoral college. Hillary got those 3M votes is just 3 or 4 buroughs within New York City. The same people that voted that carpetbagger to be their senator.

@SpikeTalon Who cares about the popular vote? Did you really say that? Why don't we just elect a committee of billionaires to select the president. Oh wait. We already have.

@TheoryNumber3 Yes I did say that because the Electoral College is what matters more. Regarding the second part of your comment, what else is new? The super rich have influenced our politics now for a long time. What do you think Obama and his cronies were...poor? Hillary lost because the majority of the citizens did not believe she was qualified to be President, and the liberal left just cannot accept that. Cripes, my home state of Pennsylvania is noted for being a blue state, and turned red because so many of my fellow Pennsylvanians could not stand Hillary.

Whataboutism /tu quo que at its prime . [en.m.wikipedia.org] Also arguably an ad hominem association fallacy [en.m.wikipedia.org] .

@novoxguy No hard evidence Trump is a racist? Seriously? [huffingtonpost.com]

@TheoryNumber3 I know...I'm supposed to be naive and believe what the Huffington Post has to say, because you know how honest and unbiased they are, right? The HP swings so heavily to the left it's not funny. Please site a truly independent news source if you want me to believe any of that.

@SpikeTalon I have a feeling that whatever source I cite you will call biased, so I'm not going to bother. You can find evidence in the Washington Post, the New York Times, PBS, The Guardian and various other sources. I'd be interested in knowing who your "independent news sources" are. Fox News I suspect.

@TheoryNumber3 Typical lefty, assuming too much. No, I don't trust FOX anymore than I do the well known liberal medias, they all lie. PBS is fairly decent. The other sources you mentioned above all lean heavily to the left, so any "evidence" they might suggest is bound to be skewed. I'm well aware there are few independent media sources compared to ones that lean either left or right, but they are out there if you dig deep enough, and the only way you would truly benefit is to do research on your own, that's what I had to do.

@SpikeTalon I'm sure you got the term "typical lefty" from PBS. If you're going to stoop to that sort of dialog there's no point in continuing. Have a nice day.

It is not easy to establish rules of law including the border security. We should’t live in chaos.

I agree.... we have to find something between chaos and a police state
