I wanted to be a Baptist preacher, thank gods (probably Set and Baal) seminary annihilated my faith.

It took me over three years to go from full on Christian to agnostic and probably another five years to be comfortable with my agnosticism. The process was extremely painful. I was a total ass while a struggling Christian w a few awesome non Christians and two of those people are 20+ year friends now. This is still the hardest thing I've gone through, much harder than divorce or PTSD from combat.

I'm not sure I'm recall actual clergy, but I have talked to several people who went through seminary school on this site.

I was a Baptist minister for 23 years. My journey was difficult. I was something of an outsider. My journey away from faith began as a junior high boy, questioning a lot of the things I was taught. I suppose I pursued ministry partly out of a sense of wonder and partly out of sense of what was right according to my family tradition. As a minister I continued questioning a lot of things that people did not want questioned: the exclusive faith claims of Christianity, the church's position against gays and lesbians, divorce, women in ministry, etc. I began to experience the hateful underbelly of the beast, as it were. Long story, and I'm not going to say any more about it, but I left ministry. As a result, my fundamentalist wife and I divorced. My kids and I have a great relationship (they were grown by the time of the divorce). My son describes himself as something of a spiritual agnostic. My daughter is a hard left feminist, which gripes my libertarian soul, but I love her to the moon and back. I'm a counselor now, loving life, and doing well.
