If you choose to leave the United States, what country would you prefer to live in next?

Why?

I would become a hermit curmudgeon somewhere warm.

My wife who is Japanese and I who am part Costa Rican and part Cuban born in the USA are planning to move to Japan at some point. Mostly atheist nation, super polite people, state of the art everything, little to no crime, super clean, universal healthcare, etc.

Thinking like a refugee - it has to be a place that would accept me as a permanent resident

  • MOST countries want young, educated people w/ 30 yr of future earnings -- few seem to be willing to accept older, retired people.

English speaking is preferred -- but Spanish as a backup.

  • Canada, New Zealand, England, Ireland, Bermuda would come first
  • Spain, Portugal (yeah, I know, not Spanish speaking... but), France
  • the nordic countries would be socially ideal - but just too cold !!

I haven't found the ideal yet -- but let's keep on looking!

Canada. Great outdoors. Great climate on the west coast. Great people. Good exchange rate. Great food and beer.

Nowhere else. I've lived in Japan, New Zealand, Australia. Visited England and Scotland, and most of Europe. USA is the place to be, even now with how it is collapsing.

What did you find not so great about Japan?. I’ve been there about 10 times for weeks and months at a time but have never lived there for an extended period. My wife who is Japanese and I are thinking of leaving my well to do business here in the USA and move to Tokyo. Just wondering what you encountered that wasnt better than the USA ?

@Bear1 I liked Japan. Just a little overcrowded. And expensive. Really interesting from a cultural perspective. Also, if I recall correctly, I don't think I saw a clear blue sky once. We lived in Miyazaki.

Canada would be my first choice. Then England, Germany, Switzerland, Denmark, Sweden. I am half German and mom's family came from Germany and Switzerland. I've lived in Germany. My dad's side of the family is English.

Canada for me. I was there years ago and loved it.

Greenland or Denmark or Sweden.

I would love to live in england scotland or wales but with brexit and Theresa May it's just becoming america with tea

Any of the Northern European countries that have a higher standard of living than the U.S.A. now has (it was not like that when I was a kid). "Socialism does not work."...yeah, right.

I've worked all over the planet.
I'd choose either Buenos Aires or Sydney.

England (miss the Cottswalds!), Canada (still within arms reach), Portugal (great climate, friendly people), Germany (felt at home & had a great time there).

Can't get my money in Cuba... lived in 3 European countries and liked a lot all of them.... Somewhere near a party town in the Mediterranean Sea... any of the Baleares Islands.... though I am mellow out enough to rent me a flat in Buenos Aires just for the Tango... just the Tango. "Assasination Tango" anyone? Robert Duval in real life married his tango teacher in the movie. Little known fact about him... he likes dancers, so he is alright with me.

Great movie, Great town. I loved working there.

@bigpawbullets Damn lucky you... Of all the spanish accents... just talking women... Argentina, Colombia, Cuba, Andalucia.

Every time I left the United states so far I've come back to England.

If I stopped living in England I'd like to try Canada, Malta or the Netherlands.

Spain - (OK, OK, I'm Irish but I want to join in).

Scandinavia, somewhere. Religion is a joke, there has been no armed conflicts there for centuries and the nature is wonderful.

been there, done that. spent 10 years in japan. i'd like to try france, but it's not going to happen.
