I swing to the right, with overall views that align best with the Libertarians.

Before I was an atheist, I would sometime swing to the left, sometimes to the right, and sometimes up and down -- I was a gymnast. Having given up gymnastics, I don't often swing, but sometimes I do. Politically, I'm considered on the right by most measures, but I don't like the left-right spectrum.

What? I just answered this question yesterday.

Atheism doesn't inherently have a political bias. But because we're a small societal minority at this time, that tends to select for iconoclastic and independent thinkers, which tends to lean liberal.

Should have posted this as a Poll

Answer is Left. There are many online polls that support this assertion.
I stand, and dress to the left.

I am pretty far to the left. Not sure if atheism had anything to do with it. I used to be a catholic. Very much taken in (at the time) by the liberation theology. I was a lefty before I was an atheist. I lost my religion in part due to the contradiction in the liberation theology: that Jesus was only a revolutionary because he was revolting against the existing religious power, but not so much against the existing political power. When I realized that in the balance, the political powers always controlled the religious power in the history, I realized Jesus was superfluous in the equation.

What kind of a dumb question is that?

Who knows, as long as they use their brains is fine for me.

"Swing"???? It's not enough to vote, I have to attend orgies too? Really?

It depends on who's leading... and how well they know the steps.

I identify as as an egailitarian classical liberal capitalist. From my point of view, that is centrist. Leftists tend to regard me as "far right". Some conservatives tolerate me as being a confused, but well-meaning socialist.
I have found that most philosiphical/political posts on this site are left-leaning. I like to believe that is more due to the vociferousness of leftists than as a measure of the average site member's viewpoints.

Study finds those with graduate education not only lean more to the left than do other Americans, but have done so increasingly in the last two decades. [insidehighered.com]

Surveys done by the University of Minnesota and George Mason University have shown that the supposedly impartial “fact checking” news organization rates Republican claims as false three times as often as Democratic claims and twice as much, respectively. [nytimes.com]

Many more for anyone who cares to look

Swing? I don't swing anywhere...I am solidly on the far left!

There's no inherent political implications of atheism, however, being a small minority in society tends to select for iconoclasts and independent thinkers, which tends to select for liberal - leaning people.

Well stated.

Politically? I've seen them all over the political spectrum.

I consider myself above politics, not to sound cocky or anything, but I think the current system is broken. That being said, I consider myself more libertarian than anything but I hold some leftist beliefs and some right. I think we need a more inclusive system, one that allows for more variance in beliefs. Something better than a two-party system. Our environment is being degraded, our corporations are corrupt, follow the dollar signs and you'll find that money is causing most of our issues. We need a universal basic income or something. Not communism. Not socialism. Not democracy. We need a resource based economy. Something, anything different than what we have now. End rant.

I swing back and forth.
