What are the stereotypes of the place you live that false/true?

I live in Washington State.

It is evergreen because we get more rain than most places. There are beautiful places, great mountains, and wild shoreline.

It is a liberal hub but only in the most populous areas. There is a significant part of the state that is very conservative and Christian. Lot's of giant billboards with Jesus... sayings.

That in England we are addicted to Tea. This is true. We addicted half the population of China to secure our supply of the stuff 😉

Along with Opium.

@jlynn37 Yup. Correction "We addicted half the population of China to Opium to secure our supply of Tea". When it comes to Narco Terrorism, Pablo Escobar had nothing on the East India Company 😉

@Nomad Thanks for the correction.

The idea that New Englander are cold people. I am handicapped and I cannot tell you how nice people have been to me. Even small children have run to open doors for me.

Thats cool! people are kind I havn't heard the word handicapped for a very long time. We refer people to being visually impaired, hearing impaired, Disabled etc in the UK. I work with learning disabilities.

same here- the terminology. Have daughter with special needs. Masters in special ed started not finished.

I can’t take the time to explain, I’ve got to grab my hat, jump on my horse, head to the saloon, and get in a circle jerk around trump and a cross.

@NothinnXpreVails LOL!

Texas. Do I need to say more?

Nebraska: Corn, wheat, conservatives, flat, deadly dull and boring. Oh dear god, we're a cliche... We have a world class zoo, the college world series, pockets of liberals, and some hills on the eastern side of the state where I live. It's a great state to be from, as far from as possible.

I spent 3 1/2 years at Offutt AFB in the 70's and when people ask about Nebraska I just tell them the wind never stops blowing. Omaha is a nice town, I enjoyed the Joe Tess carp restaurant.

@jonds56 I grew up 150 miles west of where I live now. I left the state in 1976 and really planned to never return. I moved to Omaha 13 years ago. Surprise!! My kids have settled here, I will stay here. Omaha is a nice town, just not progressive.

Although I live in So Cal, I see plenty of trumpanzee mentality around me. The specific area I live in now seems to me to be something of a "refuge" for them in the sense that it appears to me to be overwhelmingly, or at least largely caucasian dominant. I'm guessing people are coming here to get away from places that have traditionally been conservative or ultra conservative which are changing, both politically and ethnically.

It's a bit alarming to me as I absolutely do not fit in with these jacked-up pickup driving, flag waving, belligerent bozos. These 20 and 30 somethings tooling around in their F 250 trucks 3 ft off the ground with flags in the back and gun decals on their windows do not give me the warm fuzzies, I must say.

@Akfishlady Corona was a real nowhere town, but the growth the last few years has exploded. And, it's on the way to Indian casinos further south. The damn freeway, the 15, is always jammed up somewhere, as is the 91. It's just insane. I'm only here temporarily; I hope.

@sloryd almost seems cultist to me. Seems like a sort of pseudopatriotism.

Arkansas... God, Gun and Rednecks

Everything revolves around the church community.

I grew up in Eastern Washington, mostly not that green.

All my non-Floridian relatives think we all spend every spare minute tanning on the beach.....

3

I live in the Sunshine State..Florida. I wish I knew a way to put Jesus out of business.

@Akfishlady Isn't it disgusting that there are so many churches around squeezing dollars out of poor and middle class people who think they are buying a ticket to Heaven?

No idea- never been to Washington state. Thought it was all liberal

NH- political candidates come like crazy, cold and snowy in winter, liberal politics some areas, fun place to visit-tourists galore, no income or sales tax, expensive toll roads, suburb of Boston.

False-all mountains-mostly in top half of state. Rural-shopping galore near cities. Inexpensive-high property taxes by towns.

where did you live in MA? why move to Washington?

forgot cheap liquor-no tax, medical marijuana, and transgender rights.

Ohio is the buckeye state - hardly any buckeye trees

Uff da the Coen brothers have ruined it for us up here donchuhno.

2

Texas. I have never owned a gun. I do not own a cowboy hat. I do not own a horse. I do not own a pickup. Yes, we have the best barbecue and Mexican food.

@Akfishlady Infidel! This lie shall not stand!!! If I had a six gun and a horse and a hat or a pickup, you'd be in trouble.

My thoughts and prayers are with your feeble mind.

In addition to my fellow Floridians comments I add that we are not all palm trees, surf and sand. Florida has many quite primitive looking areas.

2

The sterotypes for my region is that we are the hippie centre of Australia, all into love light clean living and such. But at the same time it is also a haven for the rich and famous there are boats in my street that are worth more than my house, the houses worth more than most suburbs, the houses are mostly empty as they are used only on vacations and weekends. This all creates an image that is not real. We have lots of elderly on pensions, struggling young families homeless people and lots of menal health and family abuse problems.

2

Been to Moses Lake lately? not alot of evergreen there. The steroetype on the eaastern side is country western/rodeo rules. Ellensburg has the college so there are some liberals or progressives.

@Akfishlady I the geology of eastern wa is very interesting and yeah if ya drive thru at night you would not notice. Probably, I have good friend in Spokane and it is not as progressive as many areas in western wa.

2

We don't get as many tornados as Oklahoma or Nebraska. We are not as flat as a pancake but we are flat. We are not all farmers. It is full of racists tho.

  • kansas

No I don't know Dorothy

2

My town is in Boulder county Colorado. Supposedly very liberal (especially the city of Boulder). I've been here many years and it feels like it has shifted from old school hippie liberals to wealthy, mostly white liberals who seem to be more trendy progressives.

2

Florida.
Crazy drivers and retired people - YES
Ridiculous weather? - YES
What I didn't expect, is to have so many narrow minded rednecks, but I guess, it's still south

2

Cambridge stereotype: populated entirely by hooray henries and henriettas, geeks and academics who wouldn't survive five minutes in the real world. Fuddy duddy and arch-Conservative.

Cambridge reality: plenty of hooray henries and henriettas, geeks and academics who wouldn't survive five minutes in the real world, but also a lot of hippies, ravers and other alternative types. Surprisingly radical and far to the left of most of the country.

People who have seen Seattle and Surrounding areas have No Idea that Eastern Washington is Completely Different with more conservatives, deserts and rolling farm land and less rain. Coffee isn't the only thing we are known for: Craft Beer, Seafood and Fine Wines Too. My Area is know for Tulips & Trumpter Swans and the worlds best tasting strawberries.

S.W. Michigan and I do NOT like NASCAR, NFL, MBL, NBA, McDonalds, racism, crack/meth.!

I live in Southwestern Georgia.
Many of the stereotypes are true. However, there are quite a few educated people here, who have
no use for religion. Those numbers are growing.
