Well, it happened. Someone that I respect is a Qanon believer. It's so fucking dumb. I just can't.

I have a sick feeling, deep in my stomach, that my younger daughter is being sucked into Qanon conspiracies--at least some of them.

Sorry for your lost!!!

Oh no!!!! How old is she?

I hope you can intervene with some reality before she is too far gone.

@Apunzelle She is 36 and is an Evangelical Christian 😟. She believes in the devil vs god, end times, crap.

@Apunzelle, @dkp93 . I love my daughter, but she is difficult to reason with/head strong. She has always been that way.

@Joanne I’m so sorry to hear this. 😔

@Apunzelle Me too. I hope she realizes the BS. But, she will have to do it on her own. Perhaps when the world doesn't come to an end like she thinks it is/Jesus doesn't come back, she will reevaluate her beliefs.

I have a relative, a sibling I was raised with that's into that.
We don't associate anymore.
He was seven years younger, and I could tell he was going to be a little fascist from day one.
You can't diminish the tendency of some people to worship authority or to marginalize entire categories of people, except of course the ones advocating racist right wing insanity.

Funny how Qanon people believe dems are pedophiles when all the reported cases about pedophiles in the US are almost always affiliated republican/conservative

Wow, that is a long list! Family values, eh?

I get most of my "Sicko Info" from FFRF's monthly "Black Collar Crimes" page

As I keep saying, the QAnon folk do have it absolutely right - there is a "deep state" conspiracy effort against Trump - except for one aspect: it's not at all secret or overt.

You see, over half, maybe three-quarters, maybe even four-fifths(!), of the U.S. citizenry (that's as deep state as you can get, jack, that's grassroots deep) is openly admitting they want Trump and his cronies out of office. And their not-so-secret conspiracy to accomplish that is diabolically patriotic: USE THEIR VOTE TO KICK THAT ORANGE BAG OF POOP OUT OF OFFICE!

It's no secret! They admit is openly! It's not covert, but overt! The conspiracy is real!: there is a vast swathe of united states citizenry conspiring to vote the dumbass out of office in the 2020 presidential election. I seen it on TV. I heard it on radio. I even reads it on the internets.

The QAnon conspiracy theorists are, in principle, but not in fact, correct. 🙂

You think up to 80% want him out? I think I want to live where you live, because living here, it's impossible to think it's anywhere near that high.

We need to wipe the orange out of the offal orifice.
A blue tide would work, like an emergency bidet.
I just hope there's enough PPE for the cleanup in the aftermath.

@JeffMurray I'm an optimist, Jeff!

@MakeItGood Optimists said Clinton was going to win in a landslide.

@JeffMurray those were the polls, Jeff! I never follow polls. I actually had little optimism that Hillary would win due to the hatred I saw online from Bernie supporters, and they had cause of course. They voted against her out of spite. I was surprised that she actually won the popular vote. I did vote for her though. I believed she was the better option than Trump in every way - and boy, was I right in every way!

@MakeItGood You're in the monitory. I'll admit, I didn't think Trump was going to win. I do this time though.

Had a longtime former neighbor who’d eat that shit raw.. Whatever the latest far-wrong conspiracy theory, she’d swallow it. Wondered why her fellow faculty at the high school she taught wouldn’t associate with her.

Or perhaps it was the large caliber revolver she bragged about (illegally) storing in her ‘macho truck’ on the campus lot (where she’d eat lunch alone … assumedly listening to AM hate-radio) that kept fellow teachers and administrators at a distance...

I cut contact with her a couple years ago as she ‘went after me’ in order to defend trump. If it’s been her calls coming in from my previous prefix, my phone no longer recognizes them, email either. Her loss, with reality ~

I think you mean "someone I used to respect is a Qanon believer." 😝

6

I've cut alot of people off recently.

Same

I used to be friends with someone who now believes all sorts of right wing bullshit. He is even involved in conversion therapy. This was quite a loss for me, we were very close at one time.

Then they start to make shit up to sound intelligent and informed!!!

And then you developed critical thinking skills.... damn you and your intellect...!!! 😆🤣😆

4

If they actually believe those unproven false fraudulent facts, rumors, and stories how can one take them seriously!!!

Individuals can seem intelligent and have common sense within general meeting and causal conversations!!!

It is when you start talking about some thing beyond the surface that you know is so ridiculous moronically and stupid that they come out of their shell to expose their pure unadulterated Idiocies about moronic facts and idiotic beliefs!!!

I listen for awhile excuse myself and run from them with haste!!!

They are dangerous to themselves and to you, you have now become those who are against them and their unproven lies and facts.

They will always believe anything that is put before them, they can not be trusted at this point, your life and your families lives could be in danger!!!

They are so set in their belief structure, you have become an enemy of the their way of life!!!

I just lost a best friend to it slowly over the past 4 years. We grew up believing the same things but when Trump came to power he bought in... Then was in a car accident and hopped up on painkillers for a long time and was trapped at home and started watching all the YouTube videos. The next thing I know... Here is a former Eagle Scout with a space and science merit badge who thinks we never landed on the moon! 9/11 was a hoax, pizzagate, etc. I haven't spoken to him in almost 2 years! I just can't! And he thinks I AM THE ONE who is crazy!

It just baffles me how people can change so dramatically. I would question whether or not he sustained brain damage in his accident if it weren't for my personal experiences with family. I have a dearly loved family member who used to be a very tolerant person & has now morphed into a hate-mongering bigot. I simply had to cut ties.

4

Too many in my extended family to name

4

It's a psyop.
The crazy thing is that congressional candidates have won seats now because they use the movement. Real anons know that QANON is a scam

4

What used to be a fringe conspiracy theory group has become artificially legitimized lately. Very scary! The ridiculous accusations with absolutely no base, and Trump relishes it. Though if anyone were to make up stuff, in the same way about him, he'd admonish "fake news" or "that's unpatriotic" to say such things about a president!

4

Yeah, I've lost respect for a lot of people I thought I knew over the last four years too.

3

People are disappointing. 😫

3

Tell them you are from Kooks Anonymous, and that they must give you their stimulus money. Otherwise, the International Deep State, Cannibal Headhunter, Zombie Baby Basher, Anarcho-Communist, Socialismic Conspiracy will take over the World!

3

When I hear that shit I turn around and walk away and stay away they are beyond help .

3

They are stupid and delusional

bobwjr Level 10 Aug 22, 2020

I wouldn't say stupid; but, rather, willfully ignorant and delusional.

3

What if I told you, that even some of my liberal friends have fell for it, seemingly unaware that pizzagate is a far right conspiracy allegedly created to discredit the Dems. Like, I've literally seen the blm hashtag and the saveourchildren hashtag in the same post.

does the saveourchildren hashtag mean qanon?

@Mofo1953 not originally, but it has been hijacked by Qanon supporters and used to spread conspiracy theories such as Wayfair and Pizzagate. Nearly everyone on my Facebook feed who uses it uses it under the premise that there is some big sex trafficking coverup and that nearly every facet of our society is run by pedophiles. Often these contain messages that blatantly trivialize Covid-19 and discourage safe practices because they 'jeopardize' the safety of children. The whole thing is ludicrous and it's driving me nuts.

@Iflybyyou I'd start by unfriending all those idiots. I have no patience for stupidity.

@Mofo1953 I've definitely thought about it. I hope they come around. Other than their tendency to fall for the first thing they read on the internet that suits their biases, they are pretty good people.

@Iflybyyou good luck with that coming around thing.

3

I have a former friend who is into this and we no longer talk or visit. His idea was also to shoot and kill people at our Southern border because "Trump would be OK with it." By this man's thinking I should have been shot when I went to Kenya without a visa in 2004. Some of these people also believe in Lizard People. Maybe they watch too much Star Trek.

Star Trek teaches peace, love and science... These people don't believe that.

Funny though... I think all Trump supporters and QANON believers should be shot... Or at least banished to an island surrounded by sharks!

3

Yeah, so is my sister, there's at least one in every family.

3

Well then you don't respect them anymore...di you? Or DO you.... and why?

3

I've seen similar with folks I love and respect, too. I try to be patient. I've believed some really stupid shit before. I eventually outgrew it, and so will they (probably).

If this is an aberration (rather than a pattern) for them, I think that it's usually worth it to wait. And remember, it could make for some great fun years from now, teasing them about this momentary lapse in judgement. (My oldest friends still tease me occasionally about my lapses - as I tease them about theirs.)

2

Except for myself and my mother, the rest of my mother's family are maga trolls and evangelical q-quacks. It's really disappointing to me to know that this is my most immediate gene pool. Thank goodness I don't have kids. 😬

2

So, I got really overwhelmed and sort of stopped looking at stuff for a while. Wiki says, "" QAnon[a] (/kjuːəˈnɒn/) is a far-right conspiracy theory[2][3][4][5][6][7] alleging a secret plot by a supposed "deep state" against President Donald Trump and his supporters.""

That is ridiculous. It isn't a secret. It's an election. lol
