I have no idea why someone would have compassion on tRump voters. I understand them fine, most are narcissistic, ignorant, and mean like he is. People that will not wear mask care more about their own discomfort in wearing masks and do not care about spreading it to others. If they do not wear a mask they are less likely to get a vaccination. Washington State let go of 1900 or about 3 % of state workers for not getting the vaccination. I would say good riddance.

I have to agree with you. I am tired of people saying we need to understand trump voters. The way I see things is our country is in danger of becoming a fascist state. Republican politicians backing trump just to stay in power is the most dangerous thing to democracy.

You're bold, and I admire that. I don't generally confront people when I'm out and about, but anymore I'm rarely out and about. I was good at social distancing before it was a thing. I keep my distance, get in and get out as quickly as I can. Other people are selfish, mean, and not quite bright enough.

Understanding is in fact important. As is your reaction of being repulsed, one that I share.

Trumpsters are living absurdities. They want to see themselves as being super-patriotic libertarians. They want to have the complete freedom to do as they wish and don't give a damn about others and they don't want any government to tell them what they can and cannot do. In other words, they are libertarian anarchists who feel no loyalty to any government, except for one that mirrors their absurd beliefs..

And at the same time as they see themselves as real individualists, they feel immense pressure to adhere to group beliefs and norms of their highly cohesive group. They are walking and talking oximoronic anomalies and they are oblivious to that fact .

I've noticed that conservatives, Trump supporters, and those of such ilk are a selfish group of people with no sympathy toward other people. I know or have encountered plenty of people who are self-identified as conservative or are obviously so from their words. They seem to always have in common a lack of concern or even a disdain for the underprivileged, the poor, and those in society that are more vulnerable. The worst of them seem to take joy from inflicting pointless suffering on others even in the most trivial and petty ways.

I have respect for everyone that works. Every job/ task is important. I hope it has meaning and brings satisfaction to whoever is doing it. However not everyone, including menial laborers, are capable of operating the levers of power competently.

Which brings me back to the 1930's here. Which brings up Fascism. Which is not, to say the least, a Meritocracy. A meritocracy is the system where many of these Trumpsters have failed. A meritocracy with open competition and actual demands on a person to qualify and thrive, is NOT what they want. Or even understand. For many of them it's been "pennies from heaven".....inheritance, family land, not a lot of ambition. Too smart to fail tho ! Too fucking special to fail ( God loves me ....I'm Special !! > EGO!!)
Then as it got late in the game of life Momma wanted her couch and spare bedroom back for sewing and crafts.

All this talk from the 1970's about it being a changing world .....well shit! It really did come true . That factory job that everyone hated so much is gone. Along with its union. So....ya think you hated the job that sucked and the whole wide world is out there for ya to grab a piece of the pie and set off on profitable / physical adventures might be appealing?? NOTHING is more appealing than momma's tit and the promise of eternal life. They stayed home. And waited on their savior.

For others of course, they have worked hard, played fair and earned their keep. Those I still try to consider "conservatives"....but it's getting late.....I'm not sure anymore. Maybe they're just old, fat and bored and wanna see a civil war on their reality TV. War is brutal, but also profitable.

Anyway....

Mean? Yes. Especially after having lost the election, and thus their imagined agenda (Except that Trump's only agenda was to deconstruct the administrative state). In spite of being healthy white privileged males, they resent losing the culture war too. Even dead Rodney Dangerfield gets more respect. They have their guns and their bibles, but they can't read, can't shoot and total cowards to boot. Their arrogance is a cover for their inadequacies. Even though they are narcissists, they know too well their many weaknesses. Dependent on Fox and their preachers for news, they are fully immersed in a bubble that bears no resemblance to reality, and every day, a new headline proves the stupidity of their delusion. They're a stagecoach with one horse, and that one is lame and tired. The whole of their cognition is a sparking short circuit.

Only the most experienced and game psychologists have a shot at engaging them with a hope of success. They are cult robots, and nothing less than ECT can get their attention. They have their boiling hatred of everything and everybody, but ultimately, the one thing they hate the most is themselves. They may be sad and pathetic, but they are still full-bore assholes living vacuous, stupid, pointless lives. Hurting other people is their last and only connection with reality. So, yeah, keep your distance, and your powder dry.
