Gallup Finds Only 45% Of Republicans Believe In Science

As deadly new variants of the coronavirus are spreading rapidly around the globe, a disturbing new Gallup poll found American confidence in science has split heavily along party lines, with 79 percent of Democrats expressing confidence in science, while only 45 percent of Republicans say they believe in science.

Really? Oh, for the love of Trump! And, from the looks of things, it also appears a lot of these same Trump Republicans don’t have much “confidence” in dental hygiene either. Don’t laugh, good folks like these have kept denture makes and dental implant centers in business for years. Why, what’s more American than a water glass with dentures soaking in it, resting on a night stand next to your bed?

Besides, with the good folks like Tucker Carlson, Lauren Boebert (R-CO), Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), and Madison Cawthorn (R-NC) - keeping “patriots” informed about all the evils and dangers of COVID vaccines, who needs science? After all, you don't need to believe in Darwinism - to win a Darwin Award. And while we’re at it, let us not forget - gravity is just a theory.

Why, the truth be known, when you compare the numbers of dead (625,000 to 909), charlatans like Tucker, Greene and Boebert actually make the Rev. Jim Jones seem like some sort of humanitarian. Now, some may ask, what’s the benefit of giving out bogus health information that might kill off a lot of your followers? Well, it turns out that it isn’t only science - but it also that appears math and statistics aren’t particularly strong suits for these folks either.

Not at all surprising. Remarkable that they do not believe science, but believe religion. Maybe there is some correlation?

Ya think?

One should not “believe” in science, one should research and test accordingly, or trust other experts that have been vetted through peer review.

Canndue Level 8 July 17, 2021

One can believe in the scientific process, however.

@BirdMan1 one can believe the scientific process exists, or provides better results based on evidence , I agree.

I just don’t like associating science with belief systems.

@Canndue Gotcha!

Arrogance is ignorance plus conviction- Tim Urban
While humility is a permeable filter that absorbs life experience and converts it into knowledge and wisdom, arrogance is a rubber shield that life experience simply bounces off of.

"If America cannot destroy ignorance, ignorance will destroy America.” W. E .B. Dubois
"The greatest enemy of knowledge is not ignorance, it is the illusion of knowledge.” ~ Stephen Hawking ~

We have to start using the word "accept," not "believe."

Science is not a religion for which one can substitute an alternative belief. If one doesn't accept science, then one has the duty to explain one's non-acceptance, eg how the scientific findings are wrong.

One cannot simply say I don't believe to the question: "Which scientific findings do you reject and for what reason?"

But, to believe in an invisible sky pixie with magical powers that can hear my thoughts and loves me ?? Makes PERFECT sense...

How do you believe or not believe in science?

That's like believing or not believing in history, economics etc.?

BD66 Level 8 July 17, 2021

That is precisely where God Mobsters (a.k.a. mental defectives) seek to harness the ambiguity of the word "believe" to their own advantage.

So the majority of Repugnants are willfully ignorant? That does not surprise me in the slightest, but I find it useful to have my understanding confirmed by Gallup.

Magical thinking goes hand in hand with arrogance and boastfulness about how ignorant these people are.
Christian Conservatives simply must fail, faith isn’t as useful as competence and expertise.
It’s a cultural thing, fuck their culture.

"It’s a cultural thing, fuck their culture" Yep!

You bet!
