LINK California regulators vote to ban the sale of new gasoline-powered cars by 2035

I have a serious case of "short timers disease." I am officially on countdown here in the Midwest and looking so forward to getting back to the West. #tictock #tictock

Back to the places where progress isn't simply going without your hood to the Klan meeting. 😍😍😍😍😍

Chinese companies currently produce the majority of materials used to make EV batteries

Having done graduate work in Environmental Studies, I am probably more familiar with this issue than most people. I see this as a big mistake.

The problem is not the carbon from gasoline going into the atmosphere. It’s the fact that that carbon is coming out of the ground and going into the atmosphere. If we were to do the intelligent thing and switch from fossil petroleum to biomass for refinery feedstock, every gallon of gas would actually be pulling a small amount of carbon out of the atmosphere.

Given the current state of climate change, this makes far more sense than going to EVs because:

  • Gasoline has a much higher energy density than an electric battery.
  • We already have all of the infrastructure for gasoline in place.
  • We are still a minimum of twelve years away from phasing out gas powered vehicles. We could phase out fossil petroleum in three years.
  • Much of the power for EVs currently comes from gas fired, or even coal fired, power plants. That makes EV a part of the problem, not a part of the solution.
  • Mining lithium can be as much of an environmental disaster as mining coal. Li batteries also require cobalt, an even worse environmental problem than lithium mining.

I can feel the vibration of the redneck diesel truck owners head's exploding.🀣🀣🀣
I want to get an electric car. As I live in an apartment complex I need to figure out how to recharge the thing.

They have put them in a public parking lot here.

@AnneWimsey I know there are some on the CWU campus for employees and students but I don't know around town. I heard there was suppose to be some being installed.

@SeaGreenEyez Why thank you! Where I currently live there is parking right in front of my upstairs unit. I could conseivably run the cord to it. As I get closer to buying I'll do more research.
