I have a serious case of "short timers disease." I am officially on countdown here in the Midwest and looking so forward to getting back to the West. #tictock #tictock
Back to the places where progress isn't simply going without your hood to the Klan meeting.
Chinese companies currently produce the majority of materials used to make EV batteries
Having done graduate work in Environmental Studies, I am probably more familiar with this issue than most people. I see this as a big mistake.
The problem is not the carbon from gasoline going into the atmosphere. It’s the fact that that carbon is coming out of the ground and going into the atmosphere. If we were to do the intelligent thing and switch from fossil petroleum to biomass for refinery feedstock, every gallon of gas would actually be pulling a small amount of carbon out of the atmosphere.
Given the current state of climate change, this makes far more sense than going to EVs because:
This is is going to push technology for EVs to the next level. It’s will also likely bring costs down to be more competitive with gas cars. Fossil fuels will eventually become obsolete anyway, so it’s great to see Americans finally taking a leadership role in the next generation of personal transportation. I may be overly optimistic but I’m an engineer and a tech dork.
I can feel the vibration of the redneck diesel truck owners head's exploding.
I want to get an electric car. As I live in an apartment complex I need to figure out how to recharge the thing.
@AnneWimsey I know there are some on the CWU campus for employees and students but I don't know around town. I heard there was suppose to be some being installed.
So I had to look this up. How does one charge their elector vehicle at home without a commercial charging station???
And as expected...Amazon.com has that covered. From a permanent private charging station (for homeowners, not renters is my guess) to portable stand alone stations. They range in price from some $600/700 down to $149.95 depending on what you choose.
But the most interesting thing I ran across is the cost to have an electric car in the USA (and abroad.) Some very interesting stuff. And the US hasn't yet caught on to the corporate greed side of this as the USA is one of the lowest cost markets. (We know how that'll work out in the end.)
@SeaGreenEyez Why thank you! Where I currently live there is parking right in front of my upstairs unit. I could conseivably run the cord to it. As I get closer to buying I'll do more research.
Massachusetts followed suit today..our Rethuglican governor sign it into law..yay..
I'm gonna buy a ForTwo for me and my one and only friend and a Vespa for me and the cat. I should be good.
I understand although I'm a life long midwesterner so I'm less familiar with the other side of the coin. To address the gasoline powered issue. I'm planning on buying a new car in the near future. I'm not 100% on board with 100% EV yet. That said a hybrid would fit my needs well. I did some research and was leaning towards a hyundai sonata limited hybrid. None for sale around here. Hopefully I can order one.
Really???? There's none over there?? You need to look where I've been looking.
I suppose because I'm in the midst of Subaru City and all things automobile, we are flush with competitors, because most of us agree...Subarus are ugly AF.
But seriously...if you're looking to purchase, look here in NW Indiana. It's a buyer's market here all the time.
(I'm looking at those ForTwo cars. I know they are death traps, but I could zip around when I'm forced out in public here and it would fit in the Uhaul when I make my escape out of here. Just put it in with the couch and dishes.)
@SeaGreenEyez Yeah, that's a pretty sweet idea on the ForTwo car.
Heck, I was interested at one point in the new Subaru BRZ but sadly there's none of those around here either. NW Indiana isn't far from where I'm at so I'll take you up on the offer and check that area out. Thanks!
