You know that the electoral college is a vestige of slavery days to equalize the south with the more populated north? Today it tips the scale to smaller states and a Wyoming vote counts 3.6 times as much as a Californian.
The shit needs to be abolished.

California has a lot of big city populace to outweigh their small towns and countryside. I, too, would love to see the electoral college abolished but am not holding my breath.

The electoral college was designed as an oversight of our election process. It wasn't based on slavery it was based on distrust of the common voter. The Senate was established to give slave states equal representation in one congressional body and the 3/5 rule was a compromise to give those same states more representation in the House of Representatives. That compromise also gave them a greater number of electoral votes.
The purpose for the electoral college was to insure that we, the people, didn't elect a demagogue who would profit from the presidency at the expense of the country. It is obviously a failure.
