I have some rhubarb growing in my garden that can be harvested. What can I do with it, any ideas, please.
Favorite pie ever, strawberry rhubarb.
Real custard topped with rhubarb compote
Rhubarb compote on buttered toast....my fave!
The easiest thing is to cook up slices in a water/sugar mix and then (after removing the Rhubarb) reduce that down for a syrup.
It's easy to save by just chopping/slicing raw and loading into freezer bags!
No more room in the freezer for anything.
You can use it in cakes, pies, compotes, cobblers, and so many other things. Google Rhubarb recipes, you will be inundated. Rhubarb Crisp with vanilla ice cream is one of my favorites. Here is a link to get you started: [tasteofhome.com]
Nice in a pie or as a compote over ice cream, as a kid we used to get a small bowl of sugar and dip the raw end of the rhubarb into it, happily gnawing away until the whole stalk was gone.
Look up 'rhubarb crumble' on the web , you will find lots of versions, but they are all so easy to cook, and so delicious it should not be missed. But do grow Angelica as well, it is very easy to grow, and if you add about one part angelica to three of rhubarb it improves every dish vastly, taste of heaven. But do be wary of harvesting rhubarb too late in the season, it gets tough and acidic as the summer goes on, a spring dish really. Rhubarb also makes a good sauce for many savoury dishes.
now i am interested in seeing some of the suggestions. outside of pie and rhubarb crisp, i have never tried anything else with it.
