I have one in my near my front door, and always love being greeted by that fragrance when it's in bloom!
Beautiful. I am used to seeing yellow Asian honeysuckle here, which smells wonderful, too, but it is invasive and has crowded out some natives. It seems to be spread by birds.
I planted some coral honeysuckle, which is native and loved by hummingbirds, but unfortunately it has NO fragrance!
Oh well, it brings those magical little faerie birds, so I have to forgive it.
Volunteer plants can sometimes be the best ones! great pics!!
My brother and I would pick a few honeysuckle flowers in my grandmother's backyard to taste the sweet nectar that the hummingbirds loved.
Never tried that. May have a go.
I remember doing that as a child…thanks for jogging my memory.
@Fernapple This is a small stamen stem that runs through the bloom. As you pull it out it will bring with it the nectar from the middle of the bloom. Lick the drop of nectar off of the stem to enjoy the sweet taste of a honeysuckle. The leaves are edible as well, although most don't eat them.
I love the smell of honeysuckle. My grandmother had some planted in her yard near the sidewalk leading from the garage to the house. The smell of honeysuckle brings back sweet childhood memories.

Posted by KateOahuThis morning I went to a class for making a terrarium with native plants at the Waikiki Community Center, which is about three blocks from where I live.

Posted by KateOahuI saw some pretty flowers on a walk today. I’d never seen a white Hibiscus before. And I do not know what the pink flowers are.
