Same deal with the Canna Lily seeds! The container holding 6 start pots that have sprouted vs the container with zero sprouts. Both sets = same soil, same pots, same date planted..... Very strange.

In some stores , if the seeds don't sell one year , they hold them over until the next year and put them back on the shelf . The older seeds may not have survived the year long storage , unplanted .

With many seeds you can do a float test, the viable seeds will sink, while the non viables will float. It works for a lot of seeds, but you don't want to use it until just before planting for obvious reasons. Not every seed that forms will stay viable or in many cases be viable. Sometimes nature fires blanks.
