The family didn’t remember planting sunflowers in our little organic garden. A great surprise to see them pop out this weekend, visited by a grasshopper (red circle) and what I believe is a honey bee...

I planted sunflowers several years ago that were supposed to be a variety of colors. They keep coming back and have always been the yellow variety.

I have a volunteer sunflower, I have to thank the birds when I figure out which one pooped out the winning seed!!

Sometimes visiting birds plant them.

We used to get a few near our bird feeder every year.

One of the kids remembered planting them after seeing them. I wonder if we’ll get seeds?

too large for a honey bee, most likely a bumble bee

I thought maybe it was a bumblebee, but I don’t see the typical fuzziness or markings.

@Bobbyzen There are a multitude of larger bees, and I'm not an expert by any means maybe @insectra can give some input

@Insectra Thanks for checking out my insects! I don’t have a better shot of the grasshopper, but it is typical of the species here in Eastern Kansas. I’ll tag you if I get a better photo. Meanwhile, here’s another look at that bee—just cuz 😀. I have a slo-mo video of it but can’t seem to load it.
