The Winter Olympics in China have just finished and it got me thinking of some past Winter Olympiads and the official or unofficial songs performed at either opening or closing ceremonies. This one for instance …the great Leonard Cohen song - Hallelujah- from the opening ceremony of the 2010 Vancouver Games sung by k.d.Lang. What a great example of two of the best Canadian musical talents to showcase to the world.

@Marionville They were....and.....Canadians don't just cheer for Canada, we cheer for everyone. Shawn White even publicly said it on a US talk show.

K.d.sang the song with Cohen in the audience some time in the 80s or 90s and he apparently was so impressed by it that he was reported saying that it was the definitive Hallelujah and could not be improved on.
@Marionville Really, I did not think it that old, nor had I heard that Cohen had liked KD LANG's version best. Fun that she kinda advertised her sexual preference.
@rogerbenham He wrote the song some time before 1984 ….that was the year he himself recorded it…
but I think I was wrong anyway it was at a performance in 2005 of the Juno Awards in Winnipeg that he heard her sing it live because I just looked it up to check and I believe this is it….
@Marionville It was a great favourite of Jeannie's but I associate the song with perhaps as long ago as 2005. I used to download his later albums.
Ten New Songs and You Want it Darker were albums we listened to frequently/
She certainly brings so much beauty to the world with her beautiful voice!!
