Universal background checks don't work... [ammoland.com]
Arouet comments on Jan 24, 2019:
Background checks work fine if they are done properly. Like speed limits and radar traps, they don't stop every perp, but they catch enough to make a difference. Your example listed a dozen or so examples of when then they didn't work. How about a list of the thousands and thousands of times they...
SpikeTalon replies on Jan 24, 2019:
@Arouet I wasn't talking about those things you named, and the original topic for this post wasn't on any of those either. No, I'm not okay with them either, everyone of those have flaws, and ignoring such does no good. Since you claim we don't know either way as to how useful background checks are, I'd say then you aren't qualified either to suggest opposite of what I claimed, that works both ways there. My point was that background checks do not stop criminals when it comes to acquiring firearms, anything else you mentioned strayed off topic. To answer your last question, yes, they are pointless as well. I'll use the driver's license as an example. What makes you think just because I pass a test that in the future I wouldn't break any traffic laws? Again I say, background checks when it comes to firearms would not stop someone with ill intent, as it's far too easy to dupe such checks.

You just contradicted yourself. If they fail even some of the times, they are not reliable then. All criminals at one point had clean records until they committed the first offense. For example, there is nothing stopping me from applying for a certain job and then once hired I could break the law, I wouldn't do such of course just an example there. Criminals do not obey the laws, and it's all too easy to get around background checks.

@MikeFlora You missed my point. Obama no longer being President doesn't matter, his ACA is still negatively affecting Americans like me long after he left office. I don't care what side you're on either, I do however think it's ridiculous to focus your ire on one man when in reality most politicians are wasting taxpayer money. You don't want a wall, I do, so that's a moot point. I think there are more people for building the wall than what the medias would have us believe, polls are known to be skewed. I have no hard feelings either, but will respond accordingly when I think only one side is being presented. Again, if you had any sense of justice you'd recognize that both major political parties play games and are holding the citizens hostage.

As long as people could create multiple accounts and nothing is done about it, I have a feeling that won't be enough. For example, someone could create two accounts and use one to help build points fast on the other, and even 10,000 points is not difficult to reach in a short amount of time.

SpikeTalon replies on Jan 23, 2019:
@GuyKeith Please rationally explain how that's a "fun" fact? Nothing really fun about having/wanting to block someone. Anyway, I'm replying to your comment here as I know you had commented on one of my posts to test to see if everyone could see each other in this group now, and I wouldn't want you to think I was ignoring you. Upon backtracking a bit in this group to read comments on some posts, I didn't realize that so many folks got offended over someone else blocking them. Last I checked I'm now banned from seventeen groups, and knowing such doesn't bother me in the least, and in fact I find such to be mildly amusing. Personally, I don't block or ban someone due to being offended, I block mostly due to being disinterested in the topics some folks tend to drone on endlessly about, using the block function as a filter so to speak. My monthly smartphone data plan has limited data, and this app tends to consume considerable data, so when I block someone whose posts I'm not interested in that saves my data. Do know that aside from one individual on here who I take exception to, I've never had any complaint or grudge with someone I blocked or banned on here. With that said, apparently most of those who were upset over me banning them from the conservative and pro gun rights groups are not aware of the fact that I host a third group which is also for conservatives, and at present time no one is banned from that group. I take it you know Mike Flora, the host of the gun control group, right? Well, he's a member of my gun group (and now also the conservative group), and awhile back I had said it was okay if he wanted to ask two or so members from his group who were interested in debating to come join my group, but he hasn't been online much lately and so that never happened. I'd be willing to let a few opposing viewpoints in the third group I had mentioned, and if I had anyone blocked I'd consider unblocking if they join said group with the intent to debate politely. I'm not as unreasonable as some of the gossip crowd on here would have you believe. By the way, word travels rather fast on this site and alot of members know who hangs with who on here, so by all means do share this with your buddies Pralina and Maturin1919. The third group I host is not hard to find in the search. I've said my piece, now the rest is up to you to decide on.

What they apparently have yet to figure out is that I host a third group in which at present time no one is banned, and it's a conservative group. @RavenCT Since you reminded me about those photos I shared in the HH group, this was something I had considered doing as well, but first though did you ever hear of the Sixty Mile Men? In short, it was a group of/for men that wanted to do charity for cancer research (I think specifically breast cancer) and they did a calendar to raise money that featured, you guessed it, naked dudes discreetly covered. My neighbor I had mentioned who dealt (still is battling) with breast cancer is quite active in the local branch of breast cancer survivors group, and her eldest daughter passed away at age forty from esophageal cancer, that was in 2012. A year before I had talked with my neighbor about that charity calendar, and strongly considered giving it a go, and wanted to do a dedication photo shoot to her for her battle with breast cancer (that just means adding a dedication along with the photo shoot). Then the following year her daughter lost her two-year long battle with cancer. I had then thought about doing a dedication to her daughter, but in 2013 the Sixty Mile Men discontinued their charity calendar for unknown reasons, so I never got the chance. Now, some six years later I can't even find alot on the SMM on the internet for some reason, a shame they decided on such as I heard that calendar was fairly popular. Another story from my past there...

Your friends might not really be libertarians, as I don't know them personally I could not say either way on that. Libertarians are generally fiscally conservative and socially liberal, a mixture in other words. As for the other guy who said shoot his ass, I would just ignore someone like that, sounds like he may have anger issues. Again, I'm certainly not angry, your question could (and did to some) appear to be somewhat hostile to some people though which is why I said what I said. SpikeTalon replies on Jan 14, 2019:
@GinaKay I do have you blocked, long story why I've blocked many on here. When I was relatively new to this site I had received multiple hate-laced messages from spam accounts and I suspected some of the regular members on here were responsible, Admin could do only so much so I resorted to blocking. Another reason why I block (aside from the spammers) is that I have limited monthly speed data and this app tends to consume quite a bit of data, so I block those who usually post on topics that I have no interest in and thus save on data. The filters for the general feed don't work too well, not for me anyway. I do not however block people due to being offended, and do know that I never had any gripes or complaints with you. It appears (judging by some of the comments on this thread anyway) that alot of people who have been blocked by others assume they got blocked due to the other party getting offended, which isn't always the case. Again, sorry about the confusion over my last group post here, I'll give everyone a heads up the next time I do such a post, and while I am a cyber security enthusiast I assure you I was not hacking anything. Still testing for bugs in this group, mostly everything is working okay, the persistent glitch has been with the notifications. Hope that explained things, take care in the meantime.

All you have to do is scroll down to the developer's comment and you will get a factual description of what happened, and not some gossip. I apologize for the confusion, I should have done a visible test post first, but I was under the impression the notification bug was fixed. I am not trying to "wall" anyone off here, just helping to identify glitches is all. Also, the option to make posts private exists for a reason and I doubt Admin will be scrapping that option anytime soon as it serves a purpose, member drama technically isn't allowed in this group so if someone needed to report another but did not want to go the private message route they could still do a post in this group and just make it private.
