This post makes me really, really wish posts in groups stayed out of my damned feed when I have the group hidden.
WilliamCharles replies on Mar 30, 2019:
That seems pretty anal retentive and a bit petty. Bitch about the hidden feature not working rather than the post. I'm in a few humor groups here. A lot of the posts I find pretty "bleh," but like with music or food, everyone's taste is different. Maybe it's the first time others had seen some of these "dad" jokes. I don't go out of my way to drop a turd in their punchbowl if I was underwhelmed by something. If you found it offensive however, say so, as I indicated that would be worthy of consideration. But if your beef is that I stole several precious seconds from your existence... well cry me a river 1/5.

WilliamCharles replies on Mar 29, 2019:
@LB67 for me personally, I have come to dislike what could be termed "exotic pets" for a number of reasons. I've known people with aquariums who think of the fish in them more akin to fresh cut flowers than actual living creatures (like carnival goldfish games). The documentary Parrot Confidential broke my heart. Exotic pets drive trafficking and other unsavory aspects of the illicit trade. I owned hermit crabs for awhile, which was very cool, but others I know copied me and I later learned of the hellish conditions they lived in. I felt horribly guilty.

Anger and despair are always churning within me, as I try to harness these emotions in effective ways in order to make a difference in these daily tragedies and outrages. My ability to do so also magnifies this anger and despair as often the results seem so tepid and inconsequential. But I remind myself to keep chipping away, as even though it may seem as if only the last hit is what succeeded, I know that every one leading up to it also did their part. I am grateful to all the others united in this endeavor as well. Your efforts do not go unnoticed and they provide much needed support and encouragement for my own. Keep fighting the good fight.

@Triphid there's so many logical inconsistencies in the triune god of my Catholic upbringing. I also reject the notion of Christ's "suffering" on the whole as he "knew" the ultimate nature of reality, and that his "sacrifice" was no more than play acting essentially. I do like the description Alan Watts gave the concept of the Trinity: the lover (God), the beloved (Jesus), and the love between them (the Holy Spirit).

WilliamCharles replies on Mar 26, 2019:
@zesty and address the points I made if you don't mind. You smear Palestinians as lazy and shiftless because they dare to peacefully protest for their rights, yet you ignore *every single example* of Zionist thugs preventing them from making a living. Why is that, if you feel you have the facts on your side? Instead, you change the subject. It's to the point that you're clearly not worth engaging, but that some things are worth addressing for the benefit of others who might be reading.

@zesty they've committed war crimes. One such war crime is acquiring territory by conquest. This was established by the Nuremburg courts. You know... that thing set up to try to keep those crimes that happened to Jews from happening to others. They have committed genocide as per the UN definition. As to your other blather, too many misrepresentations to bother with. And btw, Israel knowingly murdered US naval personnel in their June 8, 1967 attack on the USS Liberty, committing war crimes in the process as well, but I doubt you know much about that (or care) either.

Oh, you mean like the olive farmers whose olive trees are regularly burnt or cut down by the land theiving militias the MSM refers to as "settlers?" Or maybe the fishermen who are not allowed to fish their own waters and are routinely machine gunned by IOF attack vessels? Or maybe you mean the merchants and tradespeople who cannot import basic consumer goods because the Chosenites label them as potentially dangerous? Possibly you mean the thousands of people daily who spend countless hours at checkpoints both to and from work while trying to navigate their own land? Or how about Palestinians commuters and commercial drivers unable to drive on Israeli only roads (the Chosenites object to them being called "Jews only" roads, though the distinction seems a stretch at best) and special car plates to single them out. Quite an ironic precedent there, eh Crusty? And what about Palestinian university students who are denied travel visas or face interminable delays if they are issued, as they work towards a degree in order to DO SOMETHING USEFUL as you so brilliantly shouted? Maybe the ones who need to do something useful are the brutal fascist f*cks with their boot heels on the necks of the people whose country they stole... bullies bankrolled by their equally abusive Uncle Sugar... maybe if they stopped doing that, Palestinians could go back to being the peaceful, productive, and industrious citizens they were before the invaders arrived and took over by killing so many of them. Climate change, neglect of infrastructure, and development practices that are oblivious to topography generally all come into play. The reality is that so many people, and most shamefully the political leadership, ignore the climate intensification from global warming.
WilliamCharles replies on Mar 25, 2019:
@WonderWartHog99 I think that you misrepresent my position to be honest. There's a difference between prudent development that minimizes risks as much as possible (my position), and totally ignoring conditions to the point of being reckless (your seeming characterization of my position). Maybe instead of multi-million dollar homes atop the crumbling cliffs of Malibu, where all sorts of attempts to stabilize what nature has shown is like commanding the tides to stop, and often with unintended consequences such as seawalls and jetties causing erosion elsewhere along the shoreline, another aproach is warranted. Trailer parks would make sense. Mobile homes perched along the cliffs can get backed up when it becomes necessary, and relocated entirely when thst time comes. But it's always about the money, isn't it? And often the ones reaping the rewards shift the costs to someone else.

WilliamCharles replies on Mar 25, 2019:
@WonderWartHog99 maybe instead of emergency preparedness I should have said infrastructure to mitigate extreme weather occurances. We have flood channels, and dykes and levies (often poorly maintained), but we often fail to do things such as creating conditions to allow floodwaters to percolate back into the water table. Failure to anticipate these conditions result in the massive fkashflood conditions Houston encountered. As far as government entities dealing with crisis conditions, people trying to cross a bridge to safety while escaping the disaster in New Orleans (seeking food, water, shelter) were shot at by LEOs. That's the "we" I'm referring to. To state that everyone should have gotten out when they had the chance presumes logistical resources that may not necessarily be available to all.

@Allamanda No correction needed as Wiesel added some thoughtful elements as well and you quoted him accurately. "Elie Wiesel’s searing prose and testimonial eloquence made him a living symbol of the Holocaust that he survived and the moral obligation to never forget what happened to the Jews of Europe during World War II. As he passes away, most of the world will simply remember him as a beacon of hope that decency and humanity can survive and overcome the darkest abuses people are capable of at their worst. For many Arabs, though, the legacy of their encounter with Wiesel is far more complicated. Tribal suspicions, on both sides, stemming from the Arab-Israeli conflict, trumped the very humanitarian impulses Wiesel sought to exemplify." https://foreignpolicy.com/2016/07/04/elie-wiesels-moral-imagination-never-reached-palestine/

I think Wiesel got it from Freire (though I could be mistaken). I believe Bishop Desmund Tutu said it as well. I don't use Wiesel's version because he never applied it to the Palestinians. In fact, he'd make excuses for apartheid Israel.

WilliamCharles replies on Mar 24, 2019:
@WonderWartHog99 Thx. I was thinking more of a metal frame like a jungle gym to place the cargo container units atop (and yes, certain locations are fucked regardless). True, rapidly moving floodwaters undercut foundations in a severe deluge, but I was thinking mostly in terms of the water rising. The cage structure would have some stability regardless. A container unit that survived could also be moved intact. I've no doubt a multipronged approach is needed. It seemed even short term remediation was largely ignored, like using cruise ships for disaster housing or early warning evacuations. We don't really handle emergency preparedness all that well.

@alliwant I thought a good development strategy for that New Orleans area that was below sea level and got flooded would be cargo container housing that was raised. Below would be like a carport, providing shade and storage, but in a flood wouldn't soak all their belongings and living spaces short of the water level getting insanely high.

@alliwant So much of the New Orleans damage from Katrina? was the elimination of the wetlands that served as a buffer for the tidal surges. In Houston, the paving over of everything created flash flood conditions throughout.

The usurping entity known as "Israel" would never do this because currently they hold all the cards and their covetousness would not allow it.

He immediately recognized the ship to be a US Navy vessel. He radioed Israeli air command with this information and asked for instructions. "U.S. TAXPAYERS PAID ALL THAT WAS PAID! An arrangement was agreed to by Israel only after U.S. aid to Israel was increased from $13 million in Fiscal Year 1967 to a whopping $76.8 million in Fiscal Year 1968. That aid increase took care of negotiations for the crew, dead and wounded. These payments were made with U.S. Government checks in late Spring, 1968. Israel then refused to pay for the LIBERTY damage. The United States government then increased the aid to Israel to $121.7 million for FY 1969. The new negotiations began and Israel agreed to pay $7.6 million damages for the $40 million ship which was sold for less than $200,000.00 as scrap. But Israel DID NOT PAY as promised when U.S. aid was cut to $71 million for FY 1970, even though that was still five times the U.S. aid of 1967. And the bill remained unpaid (and not deducted from the increased U.S. aid)." https://www.eutimes.net/2008/06/israel-did-not-pay-reparations-to-the-survivors-of-the-uss-liberty/
