How young will you date? I've lived by the rule "closer to my age than my oldest child's". To clarify, I'm 47 and my oldest spawn is 24, so my target minimum age is 36. But I've recently found myself attracted to men a few years younger than that. How low will you go?

My parents would have celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary , the year they separated . Several years later , Mom had a new boyfriend . He was three years older than me . They eventually married , and lived happily together longer than her first marriage . She died at 99.5 years , and he was still caring for her . While we had our doubts at first , he was a much better choice for her , than my Dad was .

he had to be one really good guy!

@SeeCanU We thought so , and he improved while they were married . I always felt he was always kind and thoughtful , but he was an alcoholic and smoked , when they met , both of which , he eventually quit .

@Cast1es they were good for each other 🙂

I've always thought seven years either way - and I'm not sure what it is about seven, but based on previous times this topic has been discussed on this website, seven years older or younger seems a popular range. I would, of course, try to make allowances for someone outside this range if I felt a connection with them.

Maybe its the 7 year itch thing ?

Guys my age are generally not interested in a woman my age. That said, I tend to date guys 10 to 20 years younger than me. My boyfriend is 20 years younger than me & I have a date tomorrow with a guy who is 14 years younger.

Wait, you have a boyfriend, but are dating another guy? Good for you!

@LuckyCharms yes. I'm poly, so are they. Everyone knows about everyone else. No cheating, no secret paramours.

If you have a good income and a house you'll likely attract men of all ages.
Many of them are perfectly happy to be the younger playmate for older women.

And many women don't mind supporting younger men if they are fun to be with and are able to join in their outdoor activities that men the woman's age might not be in good enough shape to do.

Remember , wages women for doing the same work , are less than what men are paid . Just because you're older than he is , does not mean , you'll have the greater income .

@Cast1es Most/many young men who take up with older women only have low status or minimum wage jobs, allowing the older women to take care of them.

It's their payment for being playmates for older women, much as pretty young women who marry old rich men are doing.

I’m not looking to rent a playmate LOL. I just tend to be more active and adventurous than men my age. My late husband was 11 years younger than me and far more mature than my first husband who was 3 years older than me.

@Untamedshrew Whatever works..a 75 year old relative married a 36 year old cutie with green eyes. Turned out he was gay, but they seemed fine with it.

He renovated and redecorated her house into something out of a magazine, was an expert chef and photographer, traveled with her, took her photo, was an IT expert who took care of her computer needs.
In return, she allowed his young male friends to frequently sleep over in the guest room, so they all seemed satisfied with the arrangement. My sister and I were jealous!

@birdingnut Whatever make you happy! I guess I should stop overthinking and just follow my bliss.

I think rules on age shouldn't be taken too seriously my partner of 7 years is 25 and I'm 51 (my oldest kid just turned 26 E2A from a previous marriage of course 😀). All good and still going strong.

I sort of worked out the same thing. Women don’t date younger men as often, but even so. I am almost 38 and my son is 19, so when someone younger expresses interest, I always try to figure out if they’re too close to my kid’s age.

Go as low as you like, after all it is your life. I have an uncle who was in his 60's and married a woman in her 20's the family was not pleased. needles to say that he was a well of doctor when he married her and his family most likely had designs on his money which would become hers when he shuffled the mortal coil. Well to the best of my knowledge they had a loving relationship that lasted until his death and he and she were happy. societal expectations and norms cultural or otherwise have no business interfering with how 2 people or more relate to each other.

I think my dating age rule is keeping me from dating LOL

I was 17 when my daughter was born. She tends to date older. I pass for at least 10 years younger than I am so I get hit on by men the same age my daughter dates.

Ew.

This came up in conversation with my daughter recently and she informed me that I could go for it now since she has decided to stick to near her own age now.

go for it!

@Untamedshrew I dunno. My former son in laws are both 49. I am 55 so even going 5 younger seems odd.

Damn daughter screwing up my dating life lol

2

I'm almost 52. 46--58 doesn't give me pause. Any more years on either side, and I start thinking about it not being the right fit for me.

2

Age doesn't matter that much, people are worried too much about what others think

2

OK, I am almost 60 and my oldest is almost 34, so that gives me 47. What are you doing Saturday night?

?? I’m doing yardwork and hanging woth one of my spawn.

2

As low as allowable as long as it is consensual on both sides ?

2

15 years

I do generally like men older than my oldest son. But my oldest son is only 16 years younger than I am.

I mean be respectful to a degree of your child's life and how it may affect them but as young as you like over legal I guess.
I mean it is hard enough finding someone you connect with out there so don't make it any more complex than it has to be.

I don't have kids so I don't "target" any age group but I do tend to be less interested in any under 30 because I barely understand pop culture/language choices these days so sometimes miss the meaning behind things. Of course that happens with women of any age so I should likely take my own advice and just connect with anyone interested enough to ask.

Final answer: I am clueless

I can't imagine someone in their 20s would be appealing to me anyway. I guess I was just worried about looking ridiculous with someone "too young" for me. I find so few people worth giving up my solitude for, that I should probably go with anyone who lures me out LOL. You are not clueless. Didn't some smart philosopher say it is the fool who thinks he knows everything and the wise man who admits he knows nothing? Off to google...

@Untamedshrew Yeah I mean I know some people in their 20's through sports I play that are super cool so I don't eliminate the possibility just seems less likely...for both of us probably. I mean I am sure it would be weird for a 20 something too especially maybe to her peer group.

The youngest I've dated was 24 years my junior but my age limit is as long as she is over 21, I'm okay.

is that a bondage.com t-shirt that you are wearing?

@AmmaRE007 Why yes it is a Bondage.com T-shirt.

I haven’t dated in about 16 years, so I really haven’t thought about it much. I would say 10 years younger or older, but it’s certainly not a rule. If someone in her 30s or early 40s seemed to be interested in me, I would probably be suspicious about her motives.

My oldest son is 45, but I'd date younger than that, if the connection was there. I don't think that'll happen, though. My ex-wife was 7 years younger than me, and that seems about right. Older? Who knows.

My is that we have to get along and enjoy each other's company. It's rare that I spend time with those in their 20's, but I dated a 27 yo when I was 42 and my daughter 20. I'm 44 now and spend time with a 20 yo. We don't date, but we're close friends (and she's more interested in my wife anyway). The generational divide tends to be an issue with younger people, but much less with some than others. My wife likes guys in their 30's, but good-looking, athletic, emotionally-mature guys in their 20's definitely catch her attention. 😉

No rule, just common sense. I'm in nursing school and interact with lots of women in an atmosphere of frank communication. You should have mutual goals and mutual interests and a power dynamic that's not exploitative. Someone who wants to tick "fuck older man" off her bucket list is much different than me taking advantage of a woman who is immature or emotionally fragile. Natural sorting seems to put it at mid forties average.

0

Now, I stay within my generation.

I go pretty low. Lol. Must be legal tho. Honestly however I'm not doing much dating lately. Just not interested in wanting others to like me

For a hook-up 20's? For anything of any consequence at least 30. But then again what do I know...
