I think that if you can form a healthy, respectful relationship with one or more of the people, that's what is important. What I've seen from Mormon fundamentalist polygamy and group marriage is that (from my perspective) those participating in those things don't have the core principles necessary to make even a monogamous relationship work. They seem to be trying to compensate by adding more people to the relationship. The relationships with one man and several women have produced the worst abuse I've heard of firsthand and seem to be entered into by the women under threat of damnation. Theoretically, I would say that adults should be able to form polygamous relationships, if that's what they want, but the horrific things that take place in polygamous communities lead me to believe there's almost always some form of coercion in those arrangements.

Many of the same problems exist in monogamy and at times they are made worse by society's acceptance of it. So I don't believe that monogamy is the answer to any problems either. I think that if we focused on teaching real moral values in society, as in respect, setting personal boundaries, etc, we wouldn't have to discuss what type of arrangement makes the best relationships. People could figure it out for themselves.

As long as it's between consenting adults, anything goes.

Also I think this whole thread got narrow and aggressively traditionalist and judgemental REAL fast.

ive read and seen lots of documentary that sugest that we are not made to be monogam after all monogamy is only a few hundred of years old it the whole of human existence i for one was in monogamist relationship for 6 years we had are expurienses here and there but i would not mind a polygam relationship as long as everyone comunicate and honest i think as long as this is respected anything goes

I think if you can find a bed big enough and nobody minds the others who is going to complain but the prude next door?

Sometimes one partner is more than enough to handle.

Nothing against it, but if your in a relationship, it would be difficult to not hurt feelings.

I understand the feeling. I'm 26 and kind of unhappy with the whale dating thing. But we both would be wise not to forget the whole risk/ reward scenario.

Sometimes you hafta risk it to get the biscuit. Lol.

Cliche I know. But sometimes its needed.

My daughter is bi sexual, (a little Greedy for my taste.) Her boyfriend came to me for my blessings for a 3way relationship and wanted my thoughts.

Me personally,

  1. I can't keep one woman happy enough most of the time. I Don't know of any successful story of swingers making it long term.
2nd. The jealous factor and sexual transmittable diseases.
3rd The financial support, when he is a flute player who couch surfs.
4th. Most of the world views of polygamy being 4 out of the top 10 most sinful sexual behaviors.

I am always open about everything, good thing my daughter dumped him anyways.

It hasn’t happened with me but I’m pretty open minded and not opposed to it.

Each person has their own wants and needs and of you find people with wants and need that fit yours whether it be 1-1/ 2-2/ 1-10 it only matters that all parties are happy with it and want it that way. When you make people be something they aren't is when issues rise

Never say never but i don't think it's for me

As long as great sex is involved it works for me.

I think it might be the most perfect arrangement - it maximizes stability for the woman, and gives men the freedom and flexibility they are more wired to desire. I think jealousy is a toxic, controlling emotion that we should work to dismantle, and monogamy is rooted in puritanism which is antiquated and needs to go. Studies show the US in particular is more sexually uptight than other cultures, and I think that leads to a lot of repression, mental problems and violence.

Thank you...it's something I've really struggled to square with and put a lot of thought into. Every woman I've met seems to be a hardcore monogamist, while I'm waking up to the idea I have more poly inclinations.

Polyamory is not about the sick cult of not Mormons called Fundamentalist Latter Day Saints still headed by convicted felon Warren Jeffs. He and many of his followers are sick disgusting, brain-washing pedophiles or enablers of same. What they practice is a twisted and sick version of Polygamy.

Kids get molested by their family members in monogamous relationships ALL THE TIME.

On POLYAMORY -- it is doubtful that a child with polyamorous parents are any more likely to be molested than children of monogamous parents.

1

It's not for me but more power to those it is.

1

I have been in a rewarding relationship with one woman for a long time. It has been enough for me. However, what others do is their business as long as no one is being damaged by it. Whatever rocks your boat, kids.

As long as people are ok in the marriage and are of legal age, no problem.

However lots of abuse are hiding in polygamy as related to church.

1

I view any man who is a polygamist as also a masochist. 🙂

1

Is a chance for a man to disappoint many women at same time 😛

or many women with headaches fucking moaning lol

@LeighShelton boo hoo

lol

Not my cuppa tea.

I only want to date one person at a time.

Same here

1

My only concern about it that - it often appears to be a way for powerful religious (male) leaders to control & subjugate women & younger men within the power structure of their 'church'.

Otherwise - as others have said here - as long as they are all willing, of sound mind & have a choice to leave if they want to I don't see it as my business to judge.

Your two paragraphs are precisely the difference between polygamy and polyamory.

Your top paragraph describes polygamy. Your bottom paragraph describes polyamory.

@BlueWave I see absolute zero difference between several love partners and several marriage partners. ....the law does not provide a loophole for "intent" when children ADOPTED FOSTER STEP or BIRTH arrive into these POLY lives they also cannot fully embrace intentions nor deserve the evil religions imposed by anyone

THE PROFESSOR AND HIS WONDER WOMEN movie is a true story of polyamory FREE LOVE 1930's until the last son died last year making the movie about his 3 parents

Why do guy's want acceptance to legally fool around? I see no love in this kind of relationship. Just lust and control.

@irascible Me too. Still am.

@irascible. Ok... I read the question as do I support a guy with more then one wife. Or a women with sister wives.... my answer is no.

@BlueWave
Polygamy (from Late Greek ?????????, polygamía, "state of marriage to many spouses" )[1][2][3][4] is the practice of marrying multiple spouses. When a man is married to more than one wife at a time, sociologists call this polygyny. When a woman is married to more than one husband at a time, it is called polyandry. If a marriage includes multiple husbands and wives, it can be called a group marriage.

In contrast, monogamy is marriage consisting of only two parties. Like "monogamy", the term "polygamy" is often used in a de facto sense, applied regardless of whether the state recognises the relationship.[n 1] In sociobiology and zoology, researchers use polygamy in a broad sense to mean any form of multiple mating.

Worldwide, different societies variously encourage, accept or outlaw polygamy. Of societies which allow or tolerate polygamy, in the vast majority of cases the form accepted in polygyny. According to the Ethnographic Atlas (1998), of 1,231 societies noted, 588 had frequent polygyny, 453 had occasional polygyny, 186 were monogamous and 4 had polyandry;[5] although more recent research suggests polyandry may be more common than previously thought.[6] From a religious point of view, in contemporary society polygyny is associated with the Muslim religion, although not all Muslim cultures practice it, and neither is it restricted to this religion. In cultures which practice polygamy, its prevalence among that population is often connected to class and socioeconomic status.[7]

From a legal point of view, in many countries, although marriage is legally monogamous (a person can only have one spouse, and bigamy is illegal), adultery is not illegal, leading to a situation of de facto polygamy being allowed, although without legal recognition for non-official "spouses".

According to scientific studies, the human mating system is considered to be moderately polygynous, based on both surveys of world populations,[8][9] and on characteristics of human reproductive physiology.[10][11][12]

Forms

@BucketlistBob When I answered the question, I swear I read it to say polyamory. Now I read it again and it says polygamy. That explains my response here, which I deleted. 🙂

@BlueWave. I want to be your friend. I'm not fussing... thank you for not getting mad....

Free Will. I know the case of my Bi daughter living with her BF and GF together. At the end... boy was odd man out. I had done some crazy things in the past but all among adults. I can't let her mother know because then my daughter's behavior will be seen as purely my genes. Not that there was anything wrong but... like me... she been greedy. The key to me is to understand it is not going to last forever. It is just one more experience to enjoy and endure. FREE WILL. "Greed is Good"... not everyone can handle their greed. For those that can and act upon it... I Salute You. Feels good isn't it?

"Polygamy: the practice or custom of having more than one wife or husband at the same time.". A lot of folk are presuming this is only a male, female plus female proposition. It's not. This does work for some people but they have to "Work the relationship" and I think I just quoted Anita Blake. (a fictional character).
