I’ve always loved horses. My parents would take us kids to the countryside on weekends to ride horses. I always chose a “white” horse. I was 5 in this picture. Other than my bangs I never had a haircut until I was 6.

Nice photo....the horse is a beauty too.

Here is one where I was about 8-10 months old. Funny story (I don't remember this but it was something my family talked about.) When I was put in the backyard and left alone, I would take all my clothes off! Looks like I was trying to do that in this photo. I must have been a free spirit even back then. ??? I have a couple other childhood photos on my profile.

Age 12 with sister Beth, 7, at Echo Lake, Michigan.

I loved the padded, swimsuit top. Thought it gave me the illusion of a figure. The hell of it is: my body hasn't changed much.

My great-grandmother lived to 106.

Her daughters- my great-aunts- lived to 100, mentally sharp and living alone. From the back, they looked 16. I take after them.

My siblings are all overweight.

My little brother Gerd and I. He died three eyars ago. My mother bartered a damask tablecloth for the photograph. It was taken in a studio in Oldenburg in 1952.
I truly hated the big bow.

Mama had hopes in raising a gentle little Catholic girl. i had bows and "good clothes"for Sundays, but she was up against my father, an anabaptist who admired Gauss and Kepler ( German mathematicians) and told us Norse history.
The war made strange bedfellows, as my mother used to say. For me,it was like growing up with two seperate cultures.
