For their sake, I hope not. This world is going to be theirs, so they better be ready for it. I think they'll be okay.

From my perspective that's you. I see people my age and younger complaining about teenagers and twenty-somethings all of the time, and all they want do is punish them by making everything harder for them.

I decided to comment further on this today. I HATE generalizations made about any group of people. People are individuals. Also, we tend to see what we look for. If you look for the negative about the young generation...guess what? That's what you'll see.

I love young people. I try to get to know a little about the young people I work with. Guess what? They are interesting. Also, they usually respect people who respect them.

Last year I had a flat tire. A young man in his mid 20s changed my tire even though I had nothing to give him in return.

Those who delve into social media... Yes. It will be their eventual undoing!

Any problems I have with the newer generation are mostly brought about by our fast changing tech world and the apps we all use. I hate texting, for example, but I text if I have to. Being old school I use what works for me in a combo of many things. The newer generation seems to try out everything where I wouldn't want to. Language is another problem. I'm not into "trendy" talk and that might be why I get along with people from all over the world. Recently a visitor told me he had to go because he was late and all the others were "blowing him up." He was also good at using the old Vern lingo of "you know what I mean?" I said nothing but I don't know what he means.

Every previous generation says that about the next. You're just allowing yourself to turn into a cantankerous old fart.

Quite the opposite - they give me hope for the future.

Recently, a fifteen-year-old Swedish girl named Greta Thunberg gave a speech to the world leaders gathered at the United Nations climate change conference in Poland. Here it is:

"My name is Greta Thunberg. I am 15 years old. I am from Sweden.

I speak on behalf of Climate Justice Now.

Many people say that Sweden is just a small country and it doesn't matter what we do. But I've learned you are never too small to make a difference. And if a few children can get headlines all over the world just by not going to school, then imagine what we could all do together if we really wanted to. But to do that, we have to speak clearly, no matter how uncomfortable that may be.

You only speak of green eternal economic growth because you are too scared of being unpopular. You only talk about moving forward with the same bad ideas that got us into this mess, even when the only sensible thing to do is pull the emergency brake.

You are not mature enough to tell it like is. Even that burden you leave to us children. But I don't care about being popular. I care about climate justice and the living planet.

Our civilization is being sacrificed for the opportunity of a very small number of people to continue making enormous amounts of money. Our biosphere is being sacrificed so that rich people in countries like mine can live in luxury. It is the sufferings of the many which pay for the luxuries of the few.

The year 2078, I will celebrate my 75th birthday. If I have children maybe they will spend that day with me. Maybe they will ask me about you. Maybe they will ask why you didn't do anything while there still was time to act. You say you love your children above all else, and yet you are stealing their future in front of their very eyes.

Until you start focusing on what needs to be done rather than what is politically possible, there is no hope. We cannot solve a crisis without treating it as a crisis. We need to keep the fossil fuels in the ground, and we need to focus on equity. And if solutions within the system are so impossible to find, maybe we should change the system itself.

We have not come here to beg world leaders to care. You have ignored us in the past and you will ignore us again.

We have run out of excuses and we are running out of time.

We have come here to let you know that change is coming, whether you like it or not. The real power belongs to the people.

Thank you."

There's a famous story about two middle-aged rock stars, though I can't remember who they were or which band they were from. One complained that he didn't understand youth culture any longer. The other replied, "It's not our job to understand it - our job is to get out of the way."

The world belongs to the young. Get out of their way. I think they're going to make it a much better place for all of us.

Oh that just made me tear up.

No these kids are very smart and progressive. They don't just believe anything you say like past generations. They will look it up right in front of you, and I love that.

There never has been hope. In my eyes humans are a disease. A mistake. But yes, the generations get worse. People can say what they THINK about this new generation but they are naive. They have no real experience with them. being 31 and finding enjoyment in playing with people's minds, I do.

I've sat and watched this generation. Picked their brains. Watching society devolve into idiocracy.

Go ahead, watch. Closely. Witness them still blind little sheep. Stuck in these obnoxious distraction devices. Looking at 10 second videos of ridiculous content all day long. Not reading. No desire to learn. The only desires still being sex, smoke, drink and don't forget the precious propaganda device (TV). Then look at what they watch on their propaganda device 😉.

And for the naive people and the person who said they are the least racist, homophobic, sexist--you aren't paying enough attention. One of the many problems with the internet is you only see pieces of you humanity.

If you actually have the wherewithal to stand being around this generation long enough you'll quickly see the are still racist and homophobic.

I mean it's basic psychology that people pass on their beliefs and behavior. You think these peolle coming from racist homophobic homes just decided that's dumb? Me thinks not.

The Internet simply highlights things. Not to mention the majority pretending to be someone else online.

I remember my Facebook days with so many friends who posted such wonderful anti racism posts, anti homophobia posts and wonderful quotes about relationships. When in real life they say racist things and are terrible at relationships.

Stop letting the internet be your guide on humanity. People hide behind the screen. Go in their homes.

Better yet to the parties and outtings. Having to know simple sheep i end up at many partie, get together and outtings where I take advantage and play with their minds. I'm easy to talk to as well so I get so much information. And let me tell ya it's as hopeless as it's always been and it's getting no better.

A large part of it is the power of propaganda/brainwashing/disinformation. Very dangerous weapon. So i try to remember not to blame them. It's was all purposefully done long long ago.

Paranoid much? My kids are 20 and 18 and I can assure you they do, in fact, read.

Besides, you say you are 31, it’s not like you are actually that much older nor wiser.

Wow lad get some help

Absolutely NOT. This generation are the least racist, sexist or homophobic of every previous generation. My parent's generation left a lot of crap to sort out and are still living off the fat of the 1960s. We haven't done much better but this next generation are. They are standing up and being counted. I remember watching that that young girl from the Parkland shooting get up in front of the world and state categorically they were not accepting this any more and she did so in front of the glare and sometimes open hostility of the world. They daily face open criticism from people online, they are scrutinised constantly. They will not have huge fat retirement plans like my Dad's generations and in UK at least the boat has sailed on generous benefits. They are likely to face an aging generation and it is these young people who will be wiping our asses (sorry English, a bit basic). Every single day I stand in front of my student nurses and feel proud of them for what they have decided to do. Our young people are the great hope for the world's future and we should blooming well treasure them #deadproudmum

I should add that my own children (Am 26 years, Is 22 years and Ja 20 years) are fabulous

The best thing is to just keep moving and don't make eye contact. Good luck.

Nope

1

As any previous generation thinks about the next one.
Every generation in general is rebelious against the previous.

0

I’m sure they will be as mixed a bag as previous generations. Comparing Jared Kushner to Trump does not make me feel like the next generation will be the generation to fix everything... that would definitely be too much to expect. But if they can take the lessons of mindful living to heart, and make a bit of a dent in the problem of inequality then they will leave the world better than they found it.

1

No not at all. I am inspired by them and have great hope for them. They have a monumental task ahead of them, thanks to the immoral, negligent and biased generations before them, who have totally fucked everything up.

0

No, I do feel sorry for them though.

1

I feel the exact opposite. I hope we can survive long enough for the boomers to die off so the millennials can take over & fix the mess.

1

NO! They are humanity's only hope.

not at all. it's not a generational problem. i know smart old farts like myself and stupid old farts too. i know stupid young people and incredibly smart and heartful young people. every damned generation decries the fall of civilization thanks to the younger generation. they're always wrong.

Not me. I'm 56 and I'm feeling mainly inspired by younger people. They can be a little too self entitled at times though.
